Mel B reveals the REAL reason she and Eddie Murphy didn’t work out after their shock split in 2006

Mel B has revealed the real reason why she and Eddie Murphy ended their relationship as she opened up about why the pair would never have worked.

The abrupt end of the collaboration between Spice Girl Mel B and Eddie Murphy in 2006 took everyone by surprise.

One minute they were in love, living together and she was pregnant; the next moment he told a TV reporter that he wasn’t sure if the baby was his, and the whole thing was untrue.

DNA testing later revealed that daughter Angel was his child, and the pair have largely amicably co-parented since.

But the reason for the feud with the movie star and comedian, whom she called the “love of my life,” has never become clear.

‘If something doesn’t feel right, if it’s not equal, then what’s the point? Yes, Eddie Murphy is a huge star. In my eyes – Spice Girls – so am I.

‘I have my own house, my own car, my own credit card. I don’t have to stand in line and be Pretty Woman because I have my own life.

‘He almost wanted to go like that. But I have a career. I’m not going to give that up just for love… to become a housewife. There’s nothing wrong with being a housewife,” she quickly added.

‘But that wasn’t my path. It probably didn’t make sense to anyone at the time why I was leaving a relationship that was so full of love and giving, and almost nurturing. But I’m a strong, independent woman, and it didn’t work out as equally as I wanted.’

Mel previously wrote about her and Eddie’s relationship in her 2018 memoir Brutally Honest.

In the book, she insisted that she and Eddie were together for a total of nine months, as she gave insight into their whirlwind relationship.

“Eddie has made me happier than any man I’ve ever met.” Mel gushed.

The relationship went so well that Eddie soon asked her and her daughter Phoenix to move in with him.

But Mel was reluctant and cracks began to appear in the relationship – and she called her life in his home ‘a gilded cage’.

Eddie didn’t want her to leave the house, even for coffee, because he said someone could make it, and he was a “germ freak” who was paranoid about safety.

At night, she claimed, he had a habit of going through his house to make sure everything was locked and double-locked.

As the months passed, more and more problems arose. Mel said she started to hate living in a crowded house all the time and became acutely aware that many of his friends didn’t like her, while she started to hate following his strict rules .

The fact that she had purchased Tampax would be reported, she claimed. Eddie insisted his people booked her flights for all the trips she took and Mel claimed he even kept an eye on her on a night out with friends.

“Nothing was really in my control,” she explained, adding, “I knew I could never like this and be part of Eddie’s kingdom.”

Mel gave birth to Angel Iris Murphy Brown on Eddie’s 46th birthday, April 3, 2007, and on June 22, 2007, the star’s representatives announced that a DNA test had confirmed that Eddie was the father.

Initially, Eddie – who now has 10 children with five different women – repeatedly refused to have anything to do with Mel or their child, with reports claiming he insisted she tricked him into getting pregnant.

But the actor eventually changed his mind.

In the book, Mel claims that thanks to his mother, Lillian Lynch, Angel was reunited with her father in May 2017 and that the two now have a close relationship.
