Mel B keeps hopes of a Spice Girls performance at Glastonbury alive as she hints they could still reunite at the legendary festival

Mel B has reignited hopes of a surprise Spice Girls 30th anniversary reunion at Glastonbury – days after Shania Twain was announced in the Legends slot.

The Glastonbury 2024 line-up was revealed last week, with Dua Lipa, Sza and Coldplay set to take the Pyramid stage.

When US country star Shania bagged the iconic Sunday Legends slot, Spice Girls fans thought it meant a surprise performance to celebrate the girl band’s 30th anniversary was out of the question.

But on Monday’s Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Mel teased that there may yet be hope for Spice fans.

“You don’t know we don’t do Glastonbury,” Mel, 48, explained coyly.

She added: ‘We’re talking about doing something together – I can’t say what it is because I always get into trouble, loose lips sink ships and I’m not about to sink the ship!

“I put the kibosh on this time, but my goal is to get us back in the studio, that would be fun.”

It comes after the Glastonbury 2024 line-up was dubbed ‘the worst ever’ by disappointed fans.

Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA will take to the Pyramid Stage this summer, with Shania playing the legendary Sunday slot.

Still, fans were left unimpressed by the announcement, with many disappointed by Coldplay – who have headlined Glastonbury four times previously – while others were surprised by the addition of SZA, who has never scored a UK number one.

Via X, formerly Twitter, many expressed their disappointment with the lineup and their annoyance that the rumors of Madonna appearing did not materialize.

Annoyed festivalgoers shared: ‘Interesting line-up at Glastonbury. Very disappointed, Madonna said no. And who the hell is Sza?????’; ‘Thought SZA was one of the Wu Tang Clan #glastonbury’; ‘Coldplay AGAIN? Jesus. And sorry, who is Sza? Really.’

‘I’m so old now that #Glastonbury has announced a headliner I’ve never heard of in my life. It is over.’; ‘Sorry but that #Glastonbury line-up…’; ‘I’ve never heard of any of the Glastonbury headliners #Glastonbury’;

Glastonbury Festival’s 2024 line-up has been branded ‘the worst ever’ by disappointed fans who rejected the ’embarrassing’ poster

‘Never in the history of #Glastonbury have there been such disappointing headliners. Imagine wading through two feet of mud to be greeted by a Coldplay headline ‘; ‘That has to be the worst #glastonbury line-up ever’;

‘What’s that setup? I’ve honestly never heard of 70% of these acts.’; ‘That might be the worst #Glastonbury line-up I’ve ever seen. Thoughts and prayers for those who managed to get a ticket.”

‘Good God, that’s the worst Glastonbury line-up ever’; ‘What a downgrade from last year #glastonbury’; ‘Never heard of SZA? #glastonbury’; ‘That’s a terrible line-up. The headliners are embarrassing #Glastonbury’

‘I’ve been there many times and while there’s a lot more to it than just the music, for me this is a terrible line-up. #Glastonbury’; ‘That has to be the most mediocre Glastonbury headliner ever.

‘One artist you have to google and the mediocre dad rock of Coldplay. Shania Twain expands the definition of legend when you look at it from a British perspective. Very disappointing #glastonbury’

While fans may not be impressed by the headliners, it is the first time in the event’s history that female acts have captured two of the three headliners.

Glastonbury bosses have been accused of choosing too many male acts as headliners. Last year’s lineup was all male, with Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Sir Elton John taking the top spots.

Other acts on this year’s line-up include Brit Award-winning rapper Little Simz and Afrobeats star Burna Boy, who makes his Pyramid Stage debut.

Big names such as LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Kiwanuka, Janelle Monae, Paul Heaton, Keane, Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean and Ayra Starr will also take the stage.

Thirteen-member boy band Seventeen will be the first K-pop band to perform on the Pyramid stage.

IDLES, Disclosure and The National will headline the Other stage, while The Streets, Two Door Cinema Club, Avril Lavigne and breakout stars The Last Dinner Party will also play the festival’s second-largest platform .

These include Camila Cabello, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bloc Party and Confidence Man.

Alongside the announcement on Glastonbury’s official social media pages, bosses wrote: ‘Here is the first line-up poster for Glastonbury Festival 2024. Many more acts and attractions are yet to be announced.’
