Megyn Kelly's SiriusXM post-debate panel was caught mocking and laughing at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' expression as a clip played of her asking him about his “electability” during Wednesday night's GOP debate in Alabama.
Kelly was one of three debate moderators at the Tuscaloosa debate and pointed out to DeSantis that he was still trailing former President Donald Trump, despite his campaign and super PAC having “spent the most money” and had “the most wealthy donors.” . .'
She also noted that DeSantis had a “wave of momentum in this race” after beating his Democratic rival in Florida by 20 points, and yet had still failed to consolidate the “non-Trump field” .
The microphones were hot as the clip played, with one male panelist commenting to Kelly, “look at that face… it looks like you shot his dog.”
Another panelist could be heard laughing at the comment.
One of the male guests on Megyn Kelly's post-debate panel (center, center) was caught on a high-powered microphone saying it looked like Kelly had shot Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' dog. Those who appeared with her were RealClearPolitics President Tom Bevan (left main), NewsNation politics editor Chris Stirewalt (right main), Emily Jashinsky of The Federalist (top right) and Michael Moynihan of The Fifth Column podcast (bottom right)
Kelly brought together NewsNation's politics editor Chris Stirewalt and RealClearPolitics President Tom Bevan to appear with her in the debate spin room, while Michael Moynihan of the Fifth Column podcast and Emily Jashinsky of The Federalist appeared virtually.
It was not immediately clear which panelist made the light-hearted comment.
An email to SiriusXM's press team about the incident was not immediately returned.
DeSantis frowned when Kelly asked the question and then said the mediocre polls should not be believed.
He then countered that “the voters actually make these decisions, not the experts and pollsters.”
“I'm tired of hearing about these polls,” he said.
On the hot mic you hear Kelly say, “You bet.”
Kelly (left) opened the debate by asking the Republican candidates questions about “electability.” DeSantis (right) raised eyebrows as she pointed out his campaign and super PAC spent the most money and had wealthy donors, yet he still trailed former President Donald Trump
DeSantis then said, “I remember those polls in November 2022, they said there was going to be a big red wave, it was going to be monumental and it crashed and burned.”
“The only place where it didn't crash and burn was the state of Florida,” he added.
Kelly said prior to playing the clip that she had difficulty asking DeSantis about his problems connecting with voters.
“I mean, I've been asking myself for months what it is that's going to get in the way of this person making it different from Trump — Trump is obviously the big thing — and I'll tell you, I have a lot of trouble for Ron DeSantis because I really wanted to go along with his inability to connect with voters,” she said.
“You can't ask a question like that without being very opinionated,” the former Fox News host said. “You know, it's like saying, 'You're not a retail politics person! People don't like you in the way that you need them to like you,” Kelly said.
Stirewalt interjected, “You're lame.”
“Yes, you're lame,” Kelly said.
“You have to stick to the facts and his numbers are just so terrible,” she added.
