Meghan’s subtle nod to the queen? Duchess carries £1000 Hermes scarf which was a favourite of late monarch as she heads to Invictus Games

Meghan Markle appeared to make a subtle nod to the Queen as she flew to Germany today, as she chose to carry one of the late monarch’s favorite scarves in her bag.

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, carried the £1,000 Hermes Brides gala scarf in her bag as she boarded a plane in Los Angeles to take her to Dusseldorf for the Invictus Games.

The scarf, which shows two bridles side by side, was worn by Her Majesty on several occasions.

The monarch owned the scarf in several colors and wore it during her Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 1982.

While the Queen’s scarf was navy blue, Meghan appeared to opt for a more modern version in dual gray and blue tones.

Meghan opted for a decidedly casual look as she checked into LAX Airport in Los Angeles for her flight to London on Monday evening, but still managed to wear some serious couture, including a $26,000 Cartier watch.

The Duchess bought a pair of wide-leg sailor-style Ulla Johnson trousers from Polina and a matching navy V-neck sweater for $773.

Flats were the order of the day, and the mother of two, who traveled to the California airport with assistants, wore a favorite pair of $770 Valentino ‘Roman Stud’ mules in ivory calfskin.

However, it was the accessories that stole the sartorial show in this particular ensemble, with Meghan, 42, wearing a Goyard ‘St. Louis PM’ tote bag, which contained the designer scarf.

The Brides de Gala scarf is Hermes’ best-selling scarf of all time and one of the most emblematic Hermès designs.

It was first designed in 1957, when Robert Dumas collaborated with designer Hugo Grygkar.

According to the Hermes website, he placed two ‘luxury’ bridles next to each other on the floor and was immediately struck by the perfect composition they formed, and the scarf design was born.

In Meghan’s scarf, a reinterpretation of the original, one of the two bridles has been redrawn to give the impression of the gluing and stitching technique used by the house’s leatherworkers. The scarf is a mix of cashmere and silk.

The Duchess looked delighted as she left the US to join her husband, but despite landing in London today she won’t be in Britain for long.

The Duchess of Sussex boarded a plane from LAX to Heathrow last night, accompanied by a single bodyguard who was spotted with some of her bags and clothes.

It is her first transatlantic trip since flying to London for the Queen’s funeral last September. The trip to Germany means she will be with Harry for his 39th birthday on Friday.

Leaving Archie and Lilibet at home, the mother of two was whisked into LAX last night in a white luxury BMW, hours after she was spotted behind the wheel of her $140,000 black Range Rover while grabbing a burger from In-N-Out grabbed. to the Sussexes’ $14.6 million Montecito home.

When she arrived at the airport just before 6 p.m., she stepped out of her limousine with a grin.
