Meghan Markle is ‘strategic’ with her friendships and ‘forgets’ about her pals ‘when she’s finished with them’, royal expert tells PALACE CONFIDENTIAL
Meghan Markle is ‘strategic’ when it comes to choosing her friendships, royal expert Charlotte Griffiths told Palace Confidential.
Speaking on the Mail+ weekly talk show, the Mail on Sunday editor-in-chief said the Montecito-based Duchess of Sussex, 42, doesn’t have many friends.
As Meghan sends the first batch of her American Riviera Orchard strawberry jam to friends, a total of 50 jars, she joked that Meghan might not have enough friends to give out that much product to.
Griffiths added that Meghan is famous for “unfriending her friends” – noting that the word “Markled” has been used as slang in recent years to distance herself from a friendship – and that it even appears in the Urban Dictionary.
According to the slang website, being “Marked” means: “To abandon someone or something after he or she has contributed to your life in a meaningful way.”
Griffiths said on the show that the phrase exists because the mother of two has “unfriended so many people she knows.”

‘[She’s unfriended] relatives, co-stars in costumes, her best friend Jessica Mulroney whose children were page boys at the royal wedding.”
Meghan’s relationship with Jessica Mulroney cooled in 2020 after the fashion designer, who lives in Toronto, became embroiled in a white privilege row in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.
After influencer Sasha Exeter called out Mulroney for showing “white privilege,” Meghan grew distant from her former BFF.
An insider told Page Six that the duo’s relationship was already on the rocks because Meghan felt like Jessica was “trying to turn the friendship into a career.”
Griffiths added: “For someone who is famous for unfriending her friends or pushing her friends aside, it’s amazing that she has mentioned the word friendship in the blurb of this documentary that has kind of been leaked.
“I think she’s a little strategic with her friends and as soon as she’s done with them, she puts them aside and forgets everything, deletes their number and in some cases blocks their number.”
Harry and Meghan are set to launch two new Netflix shows about cooking, gardening and polo as part of their ongoing $100 million deal with the streaming site.

The pair have two non-fiction projects in the works, which will stem from the launch of her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
The Duchess will focus on lifestyle-focused topics such as gardening and cooking, in a way that is likely to allow her to promote her brand and in the first series she will ‘celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining and friendship’.
Meghan sent 50 jars of her new jam to her friends, including Delfina Blaquier and fashion designer Tracy Robbins, who shared photos on Instagram.
But Griffiths is not convinced Meghan has an extensive friends list. She said: “Back to the jam thing, the other big joke going around all week is how does she know there are fifty people she can send jam to?
“This is a woman who, as far as we know, doesn’t have 50 friends. It’s a bit like the Royal Wedding Guest List.
Griffiths said Meghan invited people to her wedding who she didn’t know well, such as Oprah, who she reportedly only met in person once before the big day. Above: Oprah at Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018

“She invited people to that royal wedding that she barely knew, like Oprah, who was actually just after an interview with her, but she barely knew Oprah at the time.”
The chat show host was invited to the ceremony at St George’s Chapel, at Windsor Castle, despite apparently only having met Meghan in person once and it is not thought she had ever met Harry in person before the special day.
All 800 guests were invited to enjoy a ‘wedding breakfast’ in the Great Hall of Windsor Castle after the ceremony.
However, only 200 guests were invited that evening to a sit-down dinner in the grounds of Frogmore House, paid for by her father-in-law, King Charles.
The couple is said to have split the guest list so they could invite 100 people each and the Duchess is said to have used her quota to include Oprah in the evening’s invitation.
