Meghan Markle recalled seeing Queen Elizabeth II as a “grandmother figure” during their first joint engagement after their wedding.
The Montecito-based Meghan said she had a “great time” as she and the late Monarch attended various events in Cheshire together in June 2018.
She said she treated the Queen as her husband’s ‘grandmother’ and felt the sovereign was ‘family’, reminding her of her own grandmother.
The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan, part of the Sussexes’ multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, aired last week, with the final three hour-long episodes airing starting today.
Montecito-based Meghan said she had a “great time” as she and the late Monarch attended several events together in Cheshire in June 2018.
“Very early after we got married, we took the royal train together, we had breakfast that morning and I had a great time with her,” Meghan recalled.
“I treated her like my husband’s grandmother, and I knew there had to be a totally different sense of ownership when you were out in public,” she added.
But he suggested that he had a warmer relationship with the Monarch away from the public eye.
“When you’re sitting down and eating breakfast, just so you can talk,” he said.

“I mean, when we got in the car between appointments, she had a blanket and she put it over my knees and we were sitting in the car with this blanket,” he recalled.

‘Because that feels like a family. And because I was so, so close to my grandmother and I took care of her in her last years, it was really… It was such a good day,” she continued, adding: “We laughed.”
The Sussexes’ six-part show, part of their multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, has become the streaming giant’s most watched documentary in a week of release, debuting with 81.55 million hours watched.
The opening installment covered the couple’s courtship and romance, but many were deeply unhappy with the show’s all-out assault on the late Queen’s Commonwealth legacy, with some saying it appeared the couple wanted to “overthrow the monarchy”.
Harry also dropped a number of sly hints at his family, particularly his father and brother, including the suggestion that they had married not for love but rather a woman who fit ‘the mold’.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams also called on the filmmakers to back up the claims made.
Responding to the trailer posted yesterday, Mr Fitzwilliams told MailOnline that it showed “what a huge coup for Netflix this docuseries is”.
He added: ‘The claim is that the Palace used Meghan as a ‘scapegoat’ so that other damaging stories about other royals would go away.
