Meghan accepted gifts while at Kensington Palace, Prince Harry reveals in his memoir.

Standard practice within the Royal Family is to return unsolicited gifts that have been sent to the palace free of charge.

However, in his book, Harry admits that Meghan received gifts, but also distributed them to her staff.

Harry says: “She shared all the gifts she received, clothes, perfume and makeup, with all the women in the office.”

If a member of the royal family is seen wearing an item of clothing, it can be worth thousands of pounds in advertising, marketing executives say.

Dresses worn by the Princess of Wales often sell out within minutes of being photographed wearing a particular brand or designer item.

With this in mind, members of the royal family pay for their own clothing to avoid being seen as a commercial enterprise.

Harry includes the admission presumably to counter previous reports that Meghan was rude to palace staff.

He says: ‘I’ve never heard her say a bad word about anyone, or to anyone. Instead, I saw her redouble her efforts to reach out, to spread kindness.

“She sent handwritten thank you notes, checked in on staff who were sick, sent baskets of food or flowers or treats to anyone who was struggling, depressed, sick.”

There is speculation that Harry may have included the admission in his memoir to counter claims that Meghan was rude to palace staff. Pictured: The couple in 2017
