Harry and Meghan’s security guards have been caught covering their license plate in a possible violation of the law.

The couple arrived at the Ripple of Hope awards in New York on Tuesday night in a van where part of the license plate was covered with white plastic tape, making the letters and numbers unreadable.

When a DailyMail.com photographer saw the tape, a security guard became angry and tried to stop him from taking a photo.

Once Harry and Meghan entered the Hilton Midtown, the security guard removed the tape, saying he was there to stop media “harassers.”

Hiding your license plate or using a fake turns a vehicle into what’s known as a “ghost car,” and in August, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced a crackdown on them.

He said they were “by design insecure and untraceable.”

Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks III added: “Whether to avoid paying tolls or an attempt to evade law enforcement, the sole purpose of the products (concealing a plate) is to circumvent the law, and that is unacceptable”.

Covering up a license plate could have violated New York City traffic laws. Meghan is seen getting out of the black SUV with Harry on Tuesday night.

Danny Harris, CEO of Transportation Alternatives, said: “Hidden license plates make our streets more dangerous by enabling uncontrolled dangerous driving.”

In the first seven months of 2022, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) arrested more than 2,700 drivers of vehicles with counterfeit license plates.

At the Hilton, after the security guard removed the plastic, an NYPD detective told DailyMail.com there was “nothing illegal” about covering the plate.

The detective said he did so out of fear that someone might take note of the license plate and possibly follow Harry and Meghan, who did not hide their license plates on previous visits to New York.

While inside the event, the Duke and Duchess swore that their war against “oppression” had only just begun.

Harry and Meghan delivered the politically charged pre-recorded remarks after being honored with an award for fighting racism in the Royal Family by the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights (RFKHR) organization, an award previously given to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. .

Meghan also opened up about her struggle with suicidal thoughts while a royal, telling the audience that she “didn’t want to be alive anymore” and revealing that the decision not to end her life “wasn’t easy”, in comments that echoed the facts during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

It came just hours before the launch of the couple’s explosive Netflix series, as the royal family braces for more explosive allegations, including claims that members of the royal household tipped off the duke and duchess to the press.
