Megan Barton-Hanson socialises with Queen Consort Camilla at a reception to mark IWD

Megan Barton-Hanson chats with the queen consort while attending a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark International Women’s Day on Wednesday.

The former Love Island star, 29, was seen smiling while socializing with Camilla, 75, at the star-studded event, which was also attended by Sarah Lancashire.

Camilla, who is President of the Women of the World (WOW) Festival, hosted inspiring women, including artists, athletes and authors, at Buckingham Palace.

Megan is involved in this year’s WOW Festival and is scheduled to speak on its opening day on Friday in a talk titled Feminist With Fillers? in the Clore Ballroom.

At the reception on Wednesday, Megan cut a graceful figure in a long-sleeved black bodycon dress as she chatted with Camilla.

She styled her loose shiny golden locks straight and opted for a bold touch of red lipstick for the occasion.

Megan was joined by Camilla, who was sporting a pinstriped navy suit, comprised of a sleek blazer and midi skirt.

Megan also took to Instagram to give insight into her visit to Buckingham Palace, sharing a photo of her formal invitation to the event.

It read: “The Master of the House has received Her Majesty’s Order to invite Ms. Megan Barton Hanson to a reception to be given at Buckingham Palace by the President of the Queen Consort of WOW – Women of the World Festival to commemorate the International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.’

Alongside the image, Megan added: ‘Happy International Women’s Day to all my strong, brave and empowered women. Today is for us to celebrate each other and all we have achieved and overcome.’

The reception comes days before WOW Festival kicks off its 13th year on Friday with a variety of engaging talks at London’s Southbank Centre.

The festival will last until Sunday and will feature the intervention of Roxane Gay, as well as workshops, dozens of talks and performances.

Megan will speak on Friday in a talk titled Feminist with Fillers? alongside the likes of author Juno Dawson and life coach Sian Westley.

A description of the talk reads: ‘In this session we ask if fillers are anti-feminist or can you be a feminist and get a few adjustments?

‘Have years of frowning over gender inequality left you with wrinkles? Are fillers anti-feminist or can you be a feminist and get the odd touch up? Botox and fillers are lines that many feminists won’t cross, but why? And is that changing?

‘Our panel discusses why some might think boosting their self-esteem is a feminist issue and why others think it’s just the latest trick in the patriarchal playbook! Join us for a light-hearted discussion on aging with or without injectables.’

Queen Consort Camilla became president of the WOW festival in 2015, which raises awareness of the issues that prevent women and girls from reaching their potential.

Speaking at the reception on Wednesday, CEO and founder Jude Kelly said, “So many of you in this room represent and speak for those who can’t be here and are silenced.”

The queen consort raised her hand as Jude asked the audience if they believed “someday there will be gender equality.”

She added: ‘Girls in Iran depend on it, women in Afghanistan depend on it, all over the world people depend on other people having dreams on their behalf and making sure we move forward. ‘

He praised the Queen Consort for her support of WOW and “fighting the good fight, dreaming the good dream, and being kind to yourself and everyone else.”

Also attending the reception at Buckingham Palace was Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire, who looked dazzled when she met Camilla.

Other famous faces in attendance included former dancer Darcey Bussell, presenter Fiona Bruce, politician Penny Mordaunt, the Prime Minister’s wife Akshata Murty, and actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, who became the first deaf contestant on Strictly Come. Dancing.

A video of the meeting between Sarah and the queen consort, posted on Twitter by Rebecca English of the Daily Mail, showed Sarah looking poised with her thick blonde locks pulled up in a low bun as she waited to meet Camilla.

She appeared to be standing next to Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who returned to the UK last year after being jailed in Iran since 2016.

Stars: Also in attendance at the Buckingham Palace reception was Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire, who looked dazzled when she met Camilla.

When it was Sarah’s turn to meet Camilla, she smiled, shook her hand, curtsied and exclaimed, ‘I’m so excited to meet you!’

Laughing, she added, “I’m so delighted,” as the queen consort spoke to her.

And it seems Camilla is a big fan of hers, as she asked a question that seemed to be about Happy Valley to which the actress replied, “Well, there’s no season four.”

Happy Valley wrapped up last month and followed Sarah’s character, Catherine Cawood, as she navigated raising her grandson Ryan while keeping him out of the clutches of his rapist-murderer father, Tommy Lee Royce.
