Meanwhile, on the OTHER side of Netflix’s royal drama… Meg (not that one) recreates runway moment William said, ‘Wow, Kate is hot!’

  • Teenager Meg Bellamy was on set for the first time to play the Princess of Wales.
  • The actress was seen covering an all-black outfit similar to the one Kate wore.
  • Prince William first fell in love with Kate Middleton at a student fashion show in 2002

As the furor over its Harry & Meghan series increases, Netflix has begun working on the story of another royal romance, much less controversial.

On Friday, the streaming giant recreated the moment Prince William first fell in love with Kate Middleton at a student fashion show in 2002 while filming scenes for the upcoming The Crown series.

It was the first time that Meg Bellamy, the teenage actress who will play the future Princess of Wales, was seen on a set.

She was seen emerging from her dressing room in a dark coat that covered an all-black outfit similar to the one Kate wore that fateful day at the University of St Andrews.

Mrs. Bellamy’s hair, which had been curled, was pinned up ready to be styled like Kate’s waves that night.

Scenes were shot at Royal Holloway, University of London, in Egham, Surrey, with the university’s nightclub, Medicine, the location of the charity fashion show to which William paid £200 for a front row ticket.

When he saw his future wife walking down the runway in a sheer lace dress that revealed her black underwear underneath, she went from being his friend to being his love interest.

William is said to have said, ‘Wow, Kate is hot.’ Years later, the dress sold for £78,000 at auction.

Ms Bellamy, who won the role after answering an open call for people to apply for the coveted role, spent three days filming in Royal Holloway alongside actor Ed McVey, who plays Prince William.

The stars filmed scenes showing William and Kate partying, with extras brought in to play their college friends.

Other scenes were filmed in lecture rooms and the student union bar, festooned with mock leaflets advertising the costume nightclubs taking place in St Andrews, admission £2.

Ms Bellamy, 19, had never acted before and applied for the role after earning an A* in drama for her A levels at St Crispin’s School in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Previously, he had only been in school productions and had a part-time job at Legoland in nearby Windsor.

William and Kate lived a few doors down from each other in St Salvator’s Hall of Residence when they were at Fife University and began to socialize with each other, sometimes playing tennis together.

Yesterday, the real Princess of Wales showed some Christmas spirit in a portrait posted to promote her Christmas carol concert next week.

It showed her in a dazzling red sequined dress, with sheer embroidered sleeves and a cinched waist.

The Princess, 40, will host the event at Westminster Abbey honoring the late Queen on Thursday.

The Prince of Wales, the King and Queen Consort will also be present.
