Meet the World Darts Championship’s power couple who are rivals in going for glory… and while one’s ‘The Queen of Ally Pally’, her boyfriend’s working a plumbing shift hours before his match!

Christmas is the time of year when families and loved ones come together to celebrate the holidays, but in one Buckinghamshire household their competitive spirit is about to be put to the test.

Cameron Menzies and Fallon Sherrock are the powerhouse darts couple who will both be competing in this year's World Darts Championship and if they go far enough they could face each other in the semi-finals of the competition.

Sherrock became a household name in 2019 when she became the first female player to win a match at the PDC World Championship, beating Ted Evetts 3-2 in their first round match.

The 29-year-old went on to beat Mensur Suljovic 3-1 in the next round before losing to Chris Dobey, but her exploits earned her the nickname 'Queen of the Palace' and shot her to darts stardom.

Now Sherrock is back at the WDC – weeks after receiving her MBE from Prince William – and is looking to make more history with partner Menzies by her side.

Menzies, 34, is also looking to make his own mark on the competition and will have to beat Rusty-Jake Rodriguez in his tournament opener on Friday in what is only his second PDC World Championship.

But hours before his match, the Muirkirk ace, currently ranked 63 in the world, revealed on social media that he had a plumbing shift before heading to the oche at the Ally Pally.

'Working for that of the world. What a pleasure', Menzies wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday morning. The Scot is guaranteed £7,500 even if he loses, and a whopping £15,000 if he wins.

Ahead of his second appearance at the PDC World Championships, Menzies told The Scottish Sun that he and Sherrock have already made a bet on who can go the furthest at Ally Pally.

'Fallon has done more on the big stage than me' Menzies told The Scottish Sun. 'But we support each other. If you are defeated, you are down.

'We both know how the other feels after matches. She makes me stare into space and leaves me alone for five minutes and then I'm fine!

'It would be good if they were both still at the World Cup after Christmas. I don't know who's going to cook the turkey.

'I'm usually in Scotland with the family, but this year I'm in England with Fallon. Actually, the first person to be eliminated from the World Cup has to do the turkey!'

Menzies and Sherrock have been dating for a few years, after initially meeting on the darts circuit.

Menzies revealed that their pair met in an online competition in Southampton before it 'all started over a KFC'.

Menzies told Sky Sports in an interview last year that they inspire each other in darts and constantly practice together.

He said: “We enjoy our training together and she is a very class player. She has generally done well in darts, achieving 90 averages and 100 averages, like many women.

'I'm lucky that I have a very good partner who can play darts. It's fine in the house unless she hits me and I have to prepare dinner. I don't like it when she hits me.

“I will support her left, right and centre. I'm her biggest fan.

'I may be a bit strict, but I know how good she is. I've known her for a long time and I know she's very good.

'She has taken me to places that I would never have experienced thanks to darts, so I am a very happy person. I am her biggest fan and wish her all the best.”

Menzies will be in action on Friday evening, while Sherrock will kick off her tournament on Sunday against the Dutch Jermaine Wattinema.
