Victor Wembanyama is the “alien” who will set basketball on fire, but he was overshadowed by his older sister Eve at the New York Draft in his official NBA arrival Thursday night.

In emotional scenes, Wembanyama cried as he was interviewed after first being drafted by the San Antonio Spurs and having Eve and his brother Oscar next to him.

And it was there, when the ESPN interview turned to his family to allow him to self-soothe, that the NBA world first met Eve.

“It’s amazing, we’re all so proud,” the 21-year-old said of her brother. “We’re so happy for you, we’re happy for the family, friends, everything for basketball — it’s so great.”

The siblings then had a group hug as the magnitude of Victor’s new life began to sink in.

She documented a big night for her family and the NBA – there’s huge hype about brother Victor

Eve said she is “so proud” of Victor and it had felt like a dream to her all week

Later on Instagram, where Eve chronicled her time in New York this week, she shared a montage of photos with the caption, “Can’t believe this ain’t a dream.”

Her brother Oscar, meanwhile, changed his Instagram bio to read “Spurs fan now” after Victor was officially drafted by the team.

Eve is an accustomed basketball player in her own right – she played for France at Under 16 level and most recently played for Monaco in her home country.

She’s a distinguished 3×3 player – the official 3×3 basketball Twitter account shared a roll of highlights of her in action, captioning it: ‘Sorry Victor, our favorite Wemby plays 3×3. Eve Wembanyama is a danger!’

She may be the older sister, technically she’s not the big sister. Unsurprisingly, she’s not as tall as her six-foot-four brother—Eve is five-foot eight.

Travel seems to be a major interest for Eve outside of basketball. In addition to her photos in New York this week, she has previously shared snaps from travels across Europe and her native France.

The Wembanyamas also seem to be a close family – Eve often shares photos with her two brothers and always caps them off with a heart emoji.

Their lives will now change significantly with an explosion of interest in Wembanyama itself. He was the most nailed first pick in the Draft since LeBron James in 2003.

The 19-year-old took a whirlwind of a few days in his New York stride this week, but opportunity overwhelmed him when he was picked Thursday night.

Eve and the rest of the family’s lives are about to change dramatically now, too, whether she’s playing basketball in France or on the court in Texas later this year. Seeing her brother play will soon become the hottest ticket in town.

Wembanyama’s pinpoint control and agility is something so unusual for his towering height and it led LeBron to call him an “alien” earlier this year.

Now the French teen has embarked on the journey of potentially joining ‘The King’ as one of the NBA’s all-time greatests.
