Meet Charley Hull, the cigarette-smoking golfer who went viral at US Women’s Open by emulating John Daly
Charley Hull, the world’s No. 8 women’s golfer, channeled her inner John Daly as she signed autographs for fans at the US Women’s Open on Tuesday.
Hull put pen to paper — so to speak — with a lit cigarette in her mouth as she greeted fans at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.
The image made the rounds on social media and even reached the phones of those taking part in the event itself, as world number 1 Nelly Korda showed it to Hull and fellow golfer Megan Khang as the three laughed together.
The reaction on social media was swift as a number of golf fans cast their votes via Twitter.
“No one is making golf look cooler right now than Charley Hull,” one user wrote.

‘Funny because op [Instagram] she’s always in the gym and whatever other than the track [she’s] ripping darts lmao,” said another.
That wasn’t her only heater of the day, with one fan posting an image of her lighting up another later in the round.
Another message on Twitter read: ‘Charley Hull rips a cigarette while signing autographs for children. John Daly Is Likely Somewhere Shedding A Tear’, while another called the move ‘John Daly-esque’.
Daly, the two-time Major champion, has a penchant for ripping darts during tournaments.
He even reportedly consumed two packs of cigarettes in the first round of this year’s PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, according to The Athletic.
Daly withdrew prior to the second round of the tournament.
Hull routinely posts on Instagram, showing off her looks to her more than 438,000 followers
Hull has also been open about her dedication to fitness as a way to help with her ADHD
Hull, 28, has won twice on the LPGA Tour and is a three-time winner on the Ladies European Tour.
She started playing golf with her father at the age of 2 at her home course in Kettering, Northamptonshire and turned professional in 2013 at the age of 17.
Last year, Hull was diagnosed with ADHD and has been open about how fitness has helped her manage the symptoms.
“When I feel like I’m struggling, I go to the gym,” Hull said in an interview with Sky Sports in April. ‘I have decided not to use medication, because I feel like I can do it myself.
“One of the biggest things for me is routine. That’s why the job I have works well, because my days have a regular structure.
‘When I’m on tour I can get into a really good routine and that helps me a lot. I have a better understanding of myself in terms of what works for me and what doesn’t.
‘I know how important routine is to me and I can plan and schedule better so I can be as healthy as possible. I put myself first. I know my triggers and how to deal with them. I just do myself.’
Hull, who has more than 438,000 followers on Instagram, is interested in fashion and described her style as ‘unapologetic’.
