Gervonta Davis’ blockbuster feud with Hector Luis Garcia was briefly overshadowed on Saturday night, when rapper Meek Mill had his own fight at ringside.

Davis defended his WBA world lightweight championship and continued his undefeated record in Washington DC, but there was some drama outside the ring midway through the eighth, with the actual fight even being put on a temporary halt.

It has since emerged that the drama centered on American rapper Meek Mill, who revealed on social media shortly after that he “almost fought” a professional boxer at ringside after a disagreement over the length of the fight.

Meek Mill was caught on withheld video of an argument at ringside on Saturday night.

TV cameras caught the big fight, which forced Gervonta Davis’s fight to be stopped.

Meek Mill, pictured at a 76ers game in December, was finally calmed down by others

On Twitter, the 35-year-old, whose real name is Robert Williams, wrote: “Congrats tankkk!!! I almost fought a boxer telling him this fight doesn’t go 12 rounds, I missed the big bomb!

“I would never let any petty shit escalate to let someone run a movie… I just walked away.. Came to support tank and boots! Good wins.

It has since been reported that the aforementioned boxer Meek Mill was arguing with was Gary Russell Jr., as well as his brothers, Antonio and Gary Antuanne.

As reported by the Daily Star, sports executive Stephen Espinoza explained that the situation “escalated due to Meek rooting for Gervonta, which Russell Jr. disagreed with.”

He celebrated in extravagant style, leaping from the ropes of the ring in Washington DC.

Perhaps fortunately for Meek Mill, the argument was quickly quashed and security managed to calm things down before any punches were thrown.

Russell Jr, 34, is 31-2 in his own professional career with 18 knockouts, while his brother Gary Antonio is 19-1-1 and Gary Antuanne is 16-0 with 16 knockouts.

In the actual ring, it didn’t take much longer for Davis to finish the main fight, and the fight lasted around another minute when they finally got back on track.

He then celebrated in outlandish style, climbing the ropes before doing a backflip onto the canvas.

Davis is now 28-0 with 26 KOs, handing Garcia his first professional loss in his 17th fight.

Gary Antonio Russell (left), Gary Antuanne Russell (second left) and Gary Russell Jr (centre) are the three boxing brothers Meek Mill was said to be in a ring feud with.

Meek Mill is from Philadelphia. He is pictured in Game 5 of the Phillies World Series last year.

“I was a little surprised, but when I caught him, I knew he was hurt and he was really hurt,” Davis said afterward. He’s a fighter and I know he didn’t want to show it, but he was hurt.

‘I feel like I have things to work on. I’m a fighter and I’m not retired so my cup is never full. I am always willing to learn.

“I had a little bit of trouble because I don’t fight southpaws that often, but it’s okay because it’s part of the game.”

Garcia, for his part, said: “When I took the headshots in the last round, I couldn’t see anymore.”
