A mechanic is warning motorists to avoid making a serious mistake with their car that could cost them hundreds of pounds.
The car expert, called @sweet_tea released a public service announcement on TikTok about the mistake car owners could make at the gas station.
In a viral video that has been viewed more than 2.1 million times to date, the mechanic has added to the ongoing discussion about the inner workings of vehicles after another expert shared the cars you should avoid at all costs.
He admitted that overfilling your gas tank can cause problems with your “bleeder valve,” a part that controls the flow of fuel to your engine.
The Texas-based mechanic explained that if you put too much gas in your car, you would have to have the valve replaced, which could cost you more than $500.

He shared the video after sharing the same advice with a stranger at the gas station. The mechanic said he was refueling his car when he heard a noise from the car of someone next to him.
When he saw that they were overfilling their car, he made it clear that this could cause expensive problems for them.
However, they snapped at the mechanic and told him to ‘mind his own business’.
He said: ‘I hear the pump next to me turn off and then I see this person putting more fuel in his tank. It clicks again, they try to do it again.
“So I’m trying to be friendly and I walk over and say, ‘Hey, that’s not good for your gas tank to overfill it like that,’ and they’re like, ‘Why don’t you mind your own business?’
He noted that he was just trying to keep their purge valve from breaking.
At that point, the unnamed person asked him for more information, saying they had to replace their purge valve “two weeks” ago.
“If you overfill your tank, your purge valve will break. It will cause your check engine light to come on,” the mechanic said.
