- Locals labeled the ad “tacky” when considering the bereaved.
- Others couldn’t help but joke at the irony of the poster in Cornwall.
McDonald’s has agreed to remove a ‘McCrispy’ billboard that was placed next to a road sign for a local crematorium.
While some found the ad humorous, others were less than impressed to find it at a bus stop opposite Penmount Crematorium on a road in Truro, Cornwall.
The brightly colored billboard bearing the McCrispy signature caused a great deal of controversy online, as it generated a mixed reaction from motorists on the A39.
The sign placed behind the sign pointing to the crematorium was labeled “tacky” by angry locals.
One woman, whose mother-in-law was cremated at the facility last year, said: “While I can see the funny side, it’s tacky and I’m sure some grieving relatives won’t like to see it when they visit Penmount.” for the funeral and cremation of a loved one.’

Another person stated that “how funny it is will probably depend on how long it’s been since you followed the crematorium sign in a black tie.”
However, there were others who found the ad placement funny, as one person said, “I fell out of my chair laughing.”
Another individual couldn’t help but make the classic pun ‘I love it’, McDonald’s well-known catchphrase.
Following the controversy sparked by the ad, McDonald’s has now said it will remove the sign.
McDonald’s has urged the public that they are taking the serious matter into consideration.
A company spokesperson said: ‘We did not know the traffic signal in the vicinity of this bus stop. However, in light of concerns raised by live cornwallWe have asked that our ad be removed.’
Cornwall Council, which runs the crematorium and owns the bus stop, said it could not comment on the matter.
Speculation has been made in the local area that the McCrispy billboard will be replaced by Burger King’s grilled giant Whopper, however these claims have not been confirmed.
