With the summer months quickly approaching, McDonald’s is gearing up for a season of giveaways – and this week is no exception.
This Wednesday, May 22, the fast food giant is giving away Chicken McNuggets to anyone who orders via the company’s mobile app.
As prices continue to rise in the food sector, the burger joint wants to reward loyal customers during its midweek giveaway.
The one-day offer from participating restaurants is a free six-piece Chicken McNuggets for those who download the app and join MyMcDonald’s Rewards.

No purchase is necessary, and adding one of the fast-food giant’s signature dips to the order comes at no extra cost either.
The company, whose prices have risen in some places in recent years, says Wednesday’s offer is just the start of a long summer of deals.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said the company aims to offer customers special offers in addition to standard affordable prices.
Currently, about 90 percent of McDonald’s franchisees in the U.S. offer meal bundles for $4 or less, the spokesperson said — although the beloved burger restaurant was recently vilified online for offering its classic bundle — a Big Mac, fries, and a drink – for as much as $18 at some locations.

To address concerns caused by a general “affordability” crisis and declining sales among low-income and other customers, McDonald’s plans to introduce a $5 meal deal this summer.
The meal consists of a four-piece Chicken McNugget, small fries, a small drink and a McDouble burger or a McChicken sandwich.
Meal deals have become a renewed focus of some popular chains, as sky-high prices become fodder for the internet’s chattering class.
In a recent “viral moment,” burger chain Five Guys was roasted for a $24 customer coupon for a single meal.
Chris Kempczinski, the CEO and president of McDonald’s, recently spoke during an investor call about the company’s attitude toward customers who have become more critical of every dollar they spend in a tough economy.

“Consumers continue to be more discriminatory with every dollar they spend as they face higher prices in their everyday spending, putting pressure on the economy. [quick-service restaurant] industry,” he said.
He underscored the need for a “national value message” for the company as average consumers continue to struggle with inflationary prices that are undermining their ability to afford a way of life to which they have become accustomed.
Some parts of the US are making this an even bigger challenge for everyday Americans – like California, where the minimum wage recently rose to $20, forcing most fast-food restaurants to at least consider raising their prices.
