McDonald’s secret eater is unrecognisable after slimming down to a size 8

A woman has revealed her dramatic weight loss transformation after giving up her binge eating and secret late-night McDonald’s trips.

Alice Garrett, 24, from Milton Keynes, decided her bad habits were enough after being questioned by friends and family about her weight, dropping from 13th to 9th place.

The recent graduate would drink heavily most nights and eat in secret — sneaking to McDonald’s when everyone else was asleep — leaving her unable to climb stairs, losing her hair, and unhappy in her body.

Now Alice has developed a great relationship with food and has gone from a size 16 to a slim size 8 by eating right, exercising and lifting weights.

She explained: ‘When I was in college I would wake up to get a takeaway from Deliveroo, eat all day and eat in secret and hide it. If everyone was asleep, I would eat more and buy something or go to the store.

“When I was sad, I ate, and when I was happy or excited, I ate.” At home I would also go downstairs and empty the fridge at night. It was a comfort that I did, and it was all in my head for no reason.

“I would eat a lot of takeaways. My weakness is carbs so I would have eight slices of toast and feel guilty so I would eat more in a cycle.

“Something just ignited in me. I was so unhappy and I had so little confidence. I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. I was sick all the time, my hair was falling out – I felt so worthless and I struggled to move.

“I knew I had to do something about it. All I did was binge drinking and comfort food.

“I drank and went out most nights, for three years I didn’t think about my body or exercise. I had the best time when I was in college, living with my friends. I weighed 83 kg at my heaviest, which is about 13 stone.

“I cared about makeup and clothes, but not about my body. It really got me down, and I had a mental battle like I put on four stone in college.

“But then Covid happened, college shut down and I had to come home, which was so tough. It was a tough time for me.

“It got to the point where people would comment, and my friends would ask me if I was okay because I was gaining weight fast.

“I was eating in secret, I went to McDonald’s and I didn’t want to be seen, I would hide it.

Since moving home from college, Alice needed a change in her life to spark new, healthier habits, so she reached out to a personal trainer, who she says saved her life.

She also now has a much better relationship with food and has left unhealthy habits and binge eating behind.

“I set myself many goals and I achieved so much. I ran a half marathon and am now training for another. I went from not being able to climb stairs to running half marathons.

Alice adds: ‘I contacted a personal trainer and did it for the first year. She taught me so much. I learned about nutrition and a good diet.

“I had tried every diet. I wouldn’t eat carbs and cut things out, but now I’m eating more than ever and still losing fat.

“My PT saved me, it took me that year to learn and finally I quit with her and have been doing it all by myself for the past 18 months.

“I’ve lost a little over four stones now and I feel like such a different person. I do a lot of walking and lifting weights. The actual weight loss came from all the walking and eating healthier and less.

“Everyone was so proud and happy for me. They also saw the difference in my confidence.

“I have three meals a day, but my secret is to eat whatever I want as long as it’s nutritious and to keep walking and being active.”

‘The old me would never dream of a half marathon. I used to look at my slim friends and think I’d never look like this – and now here I am.

“I used to wear baggy clothes. One day I walked downstairs in leggings and a tank top. My mother was so shocked by the way I looked since I always wore baggy clothes.

“Once I started wearing what I wanted, people noticed the transformation and everyone has been so supportive of me. I went from a size 16 to a size 8.”
