McDonald’s rival slashes its prices to lowest level in ten years as fast food price war escalates

White Castle is the latest burger chain to join the fast-food price war, with its famous burgers now priced at their lowest in a decade.

The family-owned company, which has 335 locations, is offering ten cheese sliders for $7.99 — more than 30 percent off the regular price.

Bosses point out that this is less than 80 cents for each slider, a price we haven’t seen since 2011. The deal is $8.99 in New York and New Jersey.

Like most fast food restaurants, White Castle has seen a decline in sales this year, and the restaurant hopes the promotion will attract fast food fans.

“Families around the world are tired of having to rely on a small loan every time they go to get fast food, and we know our customers today want to make every penny count,” said Jamie Richardson, vice president at White Castle.

In response to Americans’ budget cuts, White Castle has launched a series of promotions this year to attract customers.

In May, it introduced a deal for 12 chicken rings for $3.99, which runs through August

White Castle launched the ten for $7.99 deal earlier this month in St. Louis as part of a campaign promoting its 99th anniversary in the St. Louis market. The offer was so popular that White Castle is expanding it to all of its restaurant markets.

The current deal of ten cheese sliders for $7.99 — or $8.99 in New York and New Jersey — is the biggest discount White Castle has ever offered since prices increased during and after the pandemic, the company said.

White Castle joins McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, Starbucks, Popeyes and Taco Bell in a deal, all of which were recently rated for value by experts.

Chains are offering deals to lure back Americans who are dining out less often after two years of price increases.

McDonald’s introduced a $5 meal deal earlier this summer that gets you a McChicken or McDouble, four pieces of chicken nuggets, fries and a drink.

Rival Burger King’s $5 Your Meal is very similar to McDonald’s. Customers get a choice of one of three sandwiches – a Whopper Jr, a Bacon Cheeseburger or a Chicken Jr – plus four chicken nuggets, fries and a soft drink.

Wendy’s has a breakfast deal for $3 and also a four-course meal for $5, similar to McDonald’s and BK’s.

Popular sandwich chain Jimmy John’s is offering a $10 Total Package Meal, which includes an 8-inch sandwich, a soft drink, chips and a cookie or brownie.

Starbucks also made a surprise entry into the value-for-money space with a coffee and breakfast combo starting at $5.

McDonald’s and Burger King are being undercut by Krispy Krunchy Chicken, which is offering a meal deal for just $4.

Casual restaurant chains such as Applebee’s have also ventured into the value-priced meal market in an attempt to lure customers away from fast-food competitors such as McDonald’s.

The move to compete with fast food chains is reminiscent of Chilli’s, which also recently launched its new ‘Big Smasher’ – a larger version of the Big Mac, with fries and a drink for under $10.
