McDonald’s customers have been outraged after discovering that a popular drink has been secretly removed from the menu.

A Queensland customer said he sent an inquiry to the fast food giant after noticing that his drink of choice, Diet Coke, was not available.

“Yes, this is true!” Wrote the assistant manager in a message seen by seven news.

‘Die Coke will be permanently removed from the menu once we sell out all of our current stock. You’ll still be able to order sugar-free Coca-Cola if you want.

“We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback, and we hope your next visit to a McDonald’s restaurant is an enjoyable one.”

A McDonald’s spokesperson also confirmed that the end was near for the popular favorite.

“At McDonald’s, we are committed to providing great-tasting, great-value food and beverages that our customers know and love,” a spokesperson said.

‘We regularly review and evolve our menu to meet consumers’ changing tastes and preferences.

“In response to customer feedback and the growing popularity of other low- and sugar-free beverages, McDonald’s will no longer offer Diet Coke in Australian restaurants effective January 11, 2023.

“McDonald’s continues to offer a variety of beverage options for consumers, including Sugar Free Coca-Cola, Sprite Zero Sugar and Sugar Free Frozen Coke.”

Hundreds of McDonald’s fans have expressed their frustration online, accusing the company of removing their favorite beverages.

Coke Zero tastes like shit. Looks like I’ll stick to water now with everything I get from McDonald’s,” one person wrote.

“I will never shop at McDonald’s again,” another commented.

Sugar-free Coca-Cola is rubbish. Syrup only,’ said another.

‘Nooo! I hate the taste of Coke and Coke without sugar. I love Diet Coke. I don’t eat Macca’s that often, but I will definitely lose a customer here,” one person said online.

‘Another reason not to visit McDonald’s. Actually, I can’t drink the sugar-free varieties of Coca-Cola without some pretty serious gastric issues. Diet Coke is one of the few soft drinks I can safely drink! said another.

Others have downplayed the movement.

“It’s literally the same as Coke Zero/no sugar. It’s just a soda. Who cares,’ said one person.

The controversial move comes just two months after McDonald’s ditched its popular Sprite for a ‘sugar-free’ version.

“McDonald’s Australia has recently moved to Sprite No Sugar in all of its restaurants across the country,” a spokesperson confirmed at the time.

“We look forward to hearing customer feedback on the new beverage option.”

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOOD COCA AND SUGAR-FREE COCA?

Both Diet Coke and Sugar Free Coke are sugar-free and low in calories, however, the taste of the two drinks is different.

Sugar Free Coke is designed to replicate the taste of original Coke, while Diet Coke has a “lighter” cola flavor.
