McDonald’s introduces a global fan favorite item to its American menu – but only for a limited time

McDonald’s is bringing its first-ever garlic sauce to the US.

According to the fast food chain, the Special Grade Garlic Sauce contains “notes of garlic and soy sauce, balanced with a slightly spicy sweetness.”

The new dipping sauce is inspired by the black garlic sauce found at the Golden Arches in Japan.

Keeping with the Japanese spirit, the new sauce packaging will feature eight lid designs starring popular characters from the hit anime series Jujutsu Kaisen.

It’s good news for McDonald’s fans who are eager to see more international cuisines come to the US.

Customers get the sauce for free with every order of McNuggets.

Or if they order a meal through the app, they can get it. It’s another sign that McDonald’s is pushing customers to order through the app.

McDonald’s is taking it so seriously that they’re holding a press tasting in New York City on July 8, ahead of the release, hosted by anime food show host Alvin Zhou.

Jujutsu Kaisen is an action anime show that premiered in 2020 and has two seasons. It is based on the Japanese manga series by Gege Akutami and Ballad Kitaguni.

With every purchase of the sauce, customers will get access to a free 30-day trial of Crunchyroll, during which fans can watch full episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen and other anime content.

Last week, Joe Erlinger, the president of McDonald’s in the US, hinted that a sandwich with a cult status is making a comeback.

The McRib β€” seasoned, boneless pork dipped in spicy BBQ sauce and topped with diced onions and pickles β€” is returning to America later this year.

The sandwich, which has been taken off and then added back to the menu dozens of times over the years, is a divisive issue among fast food fans: some love it, while others hate it.

But McDonald’s knows the McRib will drive customers to restaurants and drive-thrus.

The restaurant’s return, along with this summer’s $5 meal deal, will be the latest weapon in the battle to win back customers in 2024.
