McDonald’s horror as man is set on fire and rushes to King St, Newcastle fast food restaurant for help

A man has been rushed to hospital after being set on fire in a terrifying pre-dawn attack before seeking help at a nearby McDonalds.
Emergency services were called to the fast food store on King St in Newcastle, on the NSW Hunter Coast, shortly after 3am on Thursday.
The victim, a 23-year-old man, was allegedly kicked and punched by two other men who then tried to set him on fire near a construction site.
Despite suffering severe burns, he managed to stagger about 200 yards to a nearby McDonald’s, where shocked staff called an ambulance.
He was rushed to John Hunter Hospital before being transferred to Royal North Shore’s specialist burn unit where he remained in a serious but stable condition.

The motive for the attack is unclear.
Police have now cordoned off a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
