McDonald’s beloved boo buckets return but fans point out a really major flaw this year: ‘Strong pass on these’
McDonald’s Happy Meal Boo Buckets are making a comeback this fall, but there are mixed reactions on social media.
There are three main complaints about the new 2024 designs: the lack of a lid, boring designs, and poor build quality.
But it is especially the latter problem that is frustrating for McDonald’s fans. Many parents note that children often use the buckets for trick-or-treating, and the lack of a lid makes it easier for others to steal their candy.
Originally launched as Halloween Pails in 1986, Boo Buckets were offered most years until they were temporarily discontinued in 2016.
They made a comeback in 2022, returned last year and will be available again this year from October 15th. They come with Happy Meals, which cost $4 to $8.

Fans remember that the original Halloween buckets were larger and sturdier, with lids to seal them.
They were also traditionally decorated with Halloween-themed designs such as pumpkins, watches and ghosts.
This year, McDonald’s has four basic sample designs in white, orange, green and blue.
One critic on Instagram said: ‘Pass this round. Would it honestly kill them if they made the lids just like they used to?’
Another demanded: “Bring back the lids!”
The new designs have also received criticism, with some users calling them the “worst Boo Bucket designs yet.”
Another wrote: ‘Just bring back the original look.
Some fans have defended the new Boo Buckets, with one user stating: ‘I think they’re really cute!’
McDonald’s has been working hard to lure customers back with lower prices and new products company announced its first sales decline since Covid in July.
In June, McDonald’s launched a $5 meal deal that included a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink. It recently extended it until December.

Then in August, the chain announced that an all-new, larger burger called The Big Arch would be coming to the US later this year. It’s already in Canada.
Last week, the chain finally set the date when the Chicken Big Mac would come to the US. After years of being sold on and off in Europe, it will go on sale from October 10.
McDonald’s is also bringing back bagels to breakfast menus after four years.
And starting November 27, the McRib will be available again in the US for a limited time.
