McDonald’s Australia fans furious after huge ‘sneaky’ change to popular menu item: ‘They did it again’
McDonald’s fans are furious after noticing the restaurant’s subtle switch from orange juice to orange fruit drink.
Russ of the Russ Eats Instagram page pointed out the change in his 64,000 followers – compared to the restaurant’s switch from Sprite to Sprite Zero earlier this year.
“Earlier this year they swapped Sprite without informing us – they just passed it off as Sprite without sugar,” he said, summarizing the incident.
“Now they’re out of orange juice,” he said angrily.
He said he believes it is a “cost-saving” measure, but feels it conflicts with their lemonade claims.
“Fruit drinks are about 35 percent juice and they make it cheap by adding sugar,” he said.
He showed off the ingredients listed under the product on McDonald’s website to prove his point.
And angry that both customers cost the same amount, despite the fact that the fruit drink is a cheaper alternative.
“In my opinion it’s worse than the Sprite No Sugar – they claimed they were removing the sugar for our health, but they added it at their convenience,” he said.
Russ said the drink has “no flavor” and is “super sweet like a cordial.”
“It’s not bad, it’s the principle they didn’t tell us,” he said.
A McDonald’s spokesperson revealed that the switch to fruit drinks is temporary.
“We have experienced some delays in our regular supply of orange juice and are temporarily switching to an equally refreshing alternative to ensure that customers can still enjoy the choice on our menu,” they say.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank customers for their patience as we work to get our regular orange juice back on the menu as soon as possible.”

Hundreds of people reacted furiously to the video.
‘If you ask for orange juice they should tell you they only have orange fruit drink, is that okay? Like when you go somewhere and order a Coke but they only have Pepsi,” said another.
“I knew the juice tasted funny,” said another.
“This is disgusting,” said a third.
Some workers confirm they have been told there is a juice shortage.
“I’m not convinced they’ll change it back,” said one.
