McCarthy rips CNN, says at least ‘a bathroom door locks’ in defense of Trump

Kevin McCarthy rips off Biden for keeping classified documents ‘out in the open’ in his Delaware garage – when asked if it ‘looks good’ that Trump kept files in his bathroom

  • “Was that a good look for the former president to have boxes in a bathroom?” McCarthy was asked Monday when he was addressing reporters
  • ‘Don’t know. Is it a good idea to have boxes in a garage that open all the time? A bathroom door locks’

Speaker Kevin McCarthy went into attack mode for Donald Trump as reporters hounded him over the indictment of the former president for his handling of classified documents.

The speaker defended Trump, claiming that there was a double standard between Trump and President Biden’s handling of classified documents, but declined to say whether Trump was innocent.

Asked what the next steps would be in the House to fight back against the Justice Department prosecution, put forward by Special Counsel Jack Smith, McCarthy tore into the “double standard” for Republicans and Democrats.

“If someone arms the government and they actually get kicked out of the government, let’s take Andrew McCabe,” McCarthy said, before a reporter stepped in to get him back on topic.

What other actions will the House take in terms of the House Judiciary Committee? In terms of financing?’ said the reporter.

“Are you willing to defend your network, CNN…”

“I’m asking you a question.”

“I’ll answer your question, okay?” McCarthy continued, “You can’t put words in my mouth, even if your network can hire Andrew McCabe who was fired by the FBI for leaking classified documents. Have you removed it from your network? No, you keep appointing him to pass judgment on President Trump. You also hire a clapper. Clapper has come out publicly…”

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was fired in 2018 by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, after former FBI Director James Comey was fired in 2017.

‘What steps will the House take?’ the reporter pressed again, asking if they would pay back the FBI or the Justice Department.

“So your network hires clapper who lied to the American public, one of 51 other individuals who had briefings and used it politically to tell the American people that a laptop was collusion with Russia,” McCarthy said.

‘Are you willing to remove those people from your network? Because my concern as a policy maker is that if you arm the government and arm your networks now, that is wrong. We will use all of our power to ensure that the justice system in America puts the blinders back on and people are treated fairly.”

“But I’m asking you a question,” the reporter said.

“And I answer.”

“But you are not.”

“Oh very clear, I think equal justice is important.”

In another conversation, McCarthy declined to say whether Smith should come before Congress to testify.

Instead, he asked a question. Why did he think President Trump should be treated differently from anyone else? I think the American public should know.”

Trump, the first former president to face federal indictments, has been charged with 37 counts in a federal indictment.

According to the indictment, secret documents were displayed in “a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, an office area, his bedroom and a storage room” in Mar-a-Lago.

Trump also ordered aide Walt Nauta to move boxes of documents to hide them from his lawyers and investigators. He also allegedly showed classified documents to a journalist on one occasion and to someone working for his PAC on another occasion – both times he admitted that the documents were classified and that he should not share them.

He charged 31 counts of willful withholding of national defense information, one count of withholding a document or record, one count of corruptly concealing a document or records, one count for a scheme to conceal, and one count alleged false statements.

Trump will appear in a federal courthouse in Miami on Tuesday.
