Mayo Clinic Platform launches Solutions Studio accelerator

At HIMSS24, Mayo Clinic launched Platform Solutions Studio, a new program designed to accelerate the development, validation and implementation of digital health systems and integrate them into healthcare workflows. The Solutions Studio program is intended to alleviate the high costs and complexities that digital healthcare companies face in the commercialization process and help streamline the adoption of technologies across hospitals and healthcare systems.

With access to global, federated, anonymized data and efficient, scalable integration into clinical workflows, Solutions Studio aims to make digital healthcare innovation and adoption faster and easier.

Test, deploy and evaluate AI

“AI is already transforming healthcare, and it is critical that best practices are followed when testing, deploying and evaluating AI solutions,” said Dr. John Halamka, president of Mayo Clinic Platform and co-founder and chairman of the Coalition for Health AI. “For Solutions Studio, Mayo Clinic Platform has developed a rigorous, proprietary qualification process to evaluate digital healthcare solutions and ensure they are fair, appropriate, valid and effective.”

Technology developers typically take several years and millions of dollars to bring a digital health care system to the point of care, said Steve Bethke, vice president of product portfolio at Mayo Clinic Platform. “Solutions Studio will accelerate the speed at which these solutions can be developed and deployed, enabling better patient outcomes, higher operational efficiencies and lower healthcare costs.”

Halamka outlined the key benefits of Mayo Clinic Platform Solutions Studio for digital health companies:

  • Clean, curated, anonymized data from different global regions for model development and improvement.
  • Library of tools with analytics and federated training capabilities.
  • Ability to objectively assess model performance with Mayo Clinic Platform Validate.
  • Simplified process to integrate systems into clinical workflows with Mayo Clinic Platform Deploy.
  • A new technology qualification process that includes due diligence, clinical assessment, risk stratification and quantitative assessment by expert physicians and data scientists.
  • Standardized contracting processes, marketing capabilities and access to Mayo Clinic Care Network member hospitals.
  • Specialized insights and guidance from Mayo Clinic experts and access to implementation services.

“There is a lot of excitement around the transformative potential of AI in healthcare, but it will only be possible if providers have the tools needed to demystify and use AI in clinical care responsibly,” said Dr. Sonya Makhni, medical director of solutions for Mayo Clinic platform. “As founders of the Coalition for Health AI, we created guiding principles that form the foundation of Solutions Studio, allowing innovators to quickly bring qualified solutions to life, while providers gain access to high-quality solutions they can trust.”
