Max George reveals he made a heartbreaking decision while in hospital for emergency heart operation after fearing he’d die
Max George has revealed he made the heartbreaking decision to write a will after fearing he would die while in hospital for emergency heart surgery.
The Wanted singer, 36, was fitted with a pacemaker after being admitted to hospital in December after suffering problems with his heart.
Max was released in time for Christmas and is recovering at home with the support of girlfriend Maisie Smith, 23.
In a new interview, the artist talked about the paralyzing fear he felt while lying in a ward surrounded by patients at least thirty years older than him. He told how he left instructions on his iPhone in case he didn’t make it. .
He told it The sun: ‘That first night I wrote a will, I thought I was going to die. If I could go from being absolutely on top of the world to being told that “the bottom part of your heart isn’t working,” I kept thinking in my head, “Well, what if the top half of one day stops working?’
The Glad You Came hitmaker told how when he was told he needed a pacemaker because the lower half of his heart wasn’t working properly, he realized his ‘responsibilities’ when he thought about the loved ones he would leave behind if he would die. .

Recalling that ‘really scary’ and sleepless first night in hospital, Max told how he ‘struggled to move’ and suffered from a number of other symptoms, including a tight feeling in his throat and deep, slow breathing.
Two days after writing his will, Max panicked again after his heart rate and blood pressure dropped, with the star admitting it was the ‘worst day’; during your hospital stay.
He says: ‘It was very close that evening, it really felt like my neck was closing and then a kind of panic really set in. I felt like I was dying. It was the worst, I felt emotional.”
Fortunately for Max, his pacemaker was fitted exactly a week after his admission to hospital, with the singer being conscious during the operation, although heavily sedated.
He also remembered the “grim” sight of the surgeon’s hand covered in blood as he pulled his hands away, although he was also “excited” at the thought that he would finally get better.
After recovering from surgery, the All Time Low singer was delighted when Maisie was the first person to greet him. He noted that in that moment he felt “like a real person again” and “had a heart.”
He said: I also had a good heartbeat then. My heart rate just started to skyrocket. So I remember feeling my feet tingling, because I think the blood was definitely starting to pump properly. I thought, ‘Holy, I feel alive again,’ like it was a really nice feeling.”
Although it was Maisie, who had given up her panto duties and run north to be by his side, it was actually Max’s mother Babs who had ‘saved my life’ thanks to her quick thinking.
Max was staying with the health worker, 63, in Manchester when he started feeling ill, with the former footballer feeling lethargic, freezing and suffering from bruised hands.
Although Max didn’t think it was anything ‘serious’ at the time, it was Babs who made the decision for him to go to the doctor.
