Mauricio Pochettino insists Chelsea will win the Premier League – if not with him, then with another manager – because their project is on track.
The club’s policy of signing young players has taken time to come to fruition and they will look to move into the top half of the table by beating Burnley on Saturday. They are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, reached the Carabao Cup final last month and Pochettino says their data suggests they should be in the top four of the Premier League.
The manager insists this proves Chelsea are on the right track and he is confident players like Mykhailo Mudryk will only get better with time.
“When we came here we knew the challenge would be to help by maybe 10 years – and not just one or two (young players),” Pochettino said. “If we weren’t calm and didn’t analyze the project the way we do, you might be talking to different coaches here today.
‘We understood very well what it means to change the course of the club. Now it’s completely different. We want the best for the club, for the owners, for the players and for our fans.

‘Of course we want to win the Premier League. Yes, one day we will. But if not, another coaching staff will definitely win the award because this process needs to happen.
“And it has to be done in the best way – the way it’s done. Because otherwise it is impossible for the young players to grow.’
Pochettino says Chelsea’s owners are as desperate to win as the fans, who have booed their own players and sparked a civil war over the club’s management.
Only Saturday’s opponents Burnley have on average a younger line-up than Chelsea this season, as Pochettino added: ‘All the data today puts us in the top four. But for various reasons we are not there.

‘What areas do we need to improve on? In small details that you can get with experience, time and playing together.
‘It’s easy to find dates and figures when you want to kill someone. But even if the data is good and shows that the team is doing well, we must have confidence in the process.’
