Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman is taking a short break from the long-running soap to reprise a role in the West End.
The veteran actress, 76, who plays beloved grandmother Evelyn on the soap, will take four weeks off from the iconic show to bring Rose’s production to the stage.
An ITV and Coronation Street representative told MailOnline that Maureen will not be leaving the show, but will instead take a short month-long break for production, which begins on May 23.

A source also said Sun: ‘Maureen will be taking a short break from the cobblestones to star in the play, but she will be back,’ a source told the publication.
Rose will appear at the Ambassador’s Theater for a total of 28 performances.
Publications report that Maureen recently signed up for another year on the soap, where she plays Grandma Evelyn.

Maureen previously played Rose during the online pandemic run and a few shows afterward, but she said she’s excited to play the character once again.
Rose “tells the story of a woman who travels from Nazi-occupied Europe to forge a new life in America.”
She recently said in a statement: “I am delighted to put Rose back on her bench for a limited run on the Ambassadors in May.”

Screenwriter Martin Sherman added, “Maureen Lipman’s performance as Rose is the greatest gift a playwright could dream of.”

He has previously been a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and The National Theater Company.
One of her most iconic roles was as Aunt Eller at the National Theater of Oklahoma!
He joined Coronation Street in 2018.
