Nottingham Forest have confirmed the £5.5million signing of Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels, sharing an official photo of the 31-year-old in the club’s colors on their social media pages.

Sels was seen boarding his flight to England on Thursday morning, ahead of his medical treatment with the Premier League side later that day. Sels smiled as he walked onto the plane.

Sels has been a regular for Strasbourg this season, with the Belgian appointed as the club’s captain in the summer.

The goalkeeper, who has six caps for his country, returns to England after previously playing for Newcastle for two years between 2016 and 2018.

Nuno Espirito Santo was desperate to sign a new goalkeeper before the transfer deadline.

Goalkeepers Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos continue to compete for Forest despite only signing for the club last summer.

Forest had explored a number of options, including a £15 million deal for Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone and a deal for Real Betis stopper Rui Silva.

Johnstone was keen to move to secure his Euro 2024 chances with England, but Forest have now signed Sels.
