Matty J and Laura Byrne slam The Bachelors for releasing four episodes a week amid dismal viewership ratings

Matty ‘J’ Johnson and Laura Byrne throw shade at The Bachelors for releasing four episodes a week amid the show’s dismal ratings.

Former Bachelor stars Laura Byrne and Matty ‘J’ Johnson have thrown shade at the show’s latest season by showing double their usual amount of episodes a week.

Laura, 36, told her husband Matty, 35, that she was surprised to find that Channel 10 was now airing four episodes a week of the series, renamed The Bachelors.

“This week we thought we were unboxing three episodes. But now there are four of us and we were up until 3am watching,’ he joked to Matty on his uncut life podcast.

Former Bachelor stars Laura Byrne and Matty ‘J’ Johnson cast some shade on the show’s final season by showing twice their usual amount of episodes a week.

‘What are they doing?’ Matty asked in frustration.

Laura said that the increased number of episodes meant they wouldn’t have time to summarize the show on their podcast in detail and would instead give an abridged version.

“OMG no one can unbox that much Bachelor and no one can watch that much Bachelor,” Laura joked.

He added that at this rate, the show would be finished in two weeks and Channel Ten would be done with it.

It comes after the series premiered on January 9 to disastrous viewership ratings.

This led to speculation that Channel 10 was trying to screen the season quickly so that they could focus on other shows.

The Bachelors was released to just 309,000 metropolitan viewers, 18,000 fewer than the low-rated new The Project that aired immediately before.

The prime-time show once had around a million viewers a night in its 2018 heyday, when the NRL’s ‘Honey Badger’ Nick Cummins drew 940,000 fans in the capital cities alone.

But the franchise and Ten have been in rapid decline ever since. Last year’s premiere was billed as a disaster when it only drew 482,000 viewers from the metropolitan area.

But the recent figure of 309,000 could prove terminal, as they plummeted further on the second night, to just 273,000.
