Matthijs de Ligt has reportedly given the green light for a transfer to Manchester United this summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that De Ligt has approved the transfer after direct contact between his team and the Red Devils.

It is also said that personal terms will not be a problem, as his agent Rafaela Pimenta only negotiates with the Red Devils.

The Bayern Munich star previously worked with Erik ten Hag when they played together at Ajax.

United are said to be currently in talks with the Bundesliga club over a deal structure.

United have long been linked with the Dutchman, with Ten Hag reportedly ‘seriously considering a move’ earlier this week.

A report from the Dutch publication The Telegraph, claimed that United had sent terms to De Ligt.

The former Ajax star is seen as one of United’s most important defenders this summer, alongside Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

After Ten Hag moved to Ajax in 2018, he made De Ligt the club’s youngest ever captain. The club won both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup in the 2018-2019 season.

In the same campaign they also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

That summer, De Ligt joined Juventus and three years later he left for Bayern Munich.

If the transfer goes ahead, De Ligt will join former Ajax players Antony, Donny van de Beek, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and André Onana at Old Trafford.

While a move for De Ligt is likely to require a significant outlay, United’s interest in the former Juventus defender is not expected to impact on Branthwaite’s ongoing transfer window.

The club are currently preparing a second transfer for the Everton star after the Toffees rejected a £43million bid.

Everton are believed to be willing to accept a transfer fee of around £70million for the 21-year-old, who made a breakthrough last season.

Manchester United lost Raphael Varane this summer and Victor Lindelof’s future at the club is also uncertain.

Last season, the Red Devils conceded as many goals as they scored themselves, so improvements in defense are seen as a necessary requirement this summer.

The latest news about the 24-year-old came just over an hour before De Ligt’s Netherlands take on Romania in the round of 16 of Euro 2024.

However, he remained on the bench as the Netherlands still fielded Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Stefan de Vrij (Inter Milan).
