Matthew Perry’s ex-girlfriend has doubts about his cause of death. According to her, he drowned from a ketamine overdose. He was supposedly terrified of needles.
The actor was reportedly injected with ketamine dozens of times leading up to his death in October 2023. This month, five people were charged with supplying or administering the deadly drug to the Friends star.
But his ex-girlfriend and former assistant Kayti Edwards, 47, told The Mirror that he often said he would never inject drugs because he was terrified of needles. According to her, this phobia even prevented him from getting tattoos.
“This is the strange thing to me,” Edwards said. “Matthew has always, always told me he would never, ever use needles or inject anything into his body.”

Edwards continued: ‘I used to see him very high and he was on all kinds of different drugs. I used to get so scared and tell him to stop mixing all that stuff and say, ‘You’re going to die.’
“But he was like… ‘You only die if you use needles… and I would never, ever, ever do that.’
Edwards dated Perry in 2006 and although she worked as his assistant for less than a year in 2011, the paid relationship continued until his shocking death last year.
Perry’s cause of death was found to be drowning, caused by the “acute effects of the drug ketamine,” which caused him to lose consciousness in his hot tub.
She said she immediately began to doubt the circumstances when she received news of the actor’s death, which reportedly occurred after his then-assistant Kenneth Iwamasa administered a lethal dose of ketamine to him.
“When I heard he had his assistant do it, I just couldn’t understand it, especially since he had no medical training,” Edwards said.
Iwamasa pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine to cause death. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. It was later revealed that Perry told his assistant to “fill me up with a big shot of ketamine” before he was found dead in his $5.2 million Los Angeles mansion.

Edwards said that when she investigated the case, she was also shocked by the lack of drugs or other items found in Perry’s home.
“If you had given him a big blow, there would be a needle and evidence of ketamine in the house. Where did it all go?” she asked.
“Why did the assistant fill him up with all that drugs and then leave? I always stayed with Matthew when he was on drugs because I didn’t want him to overdose or have anything happen. I could have called 911. But why wasn’t his assistant there?”
This comes after a recently released document revealed that another person charged in Perry’s death, so-called ‘Ketamine Queen’ Jasveen Sangha, often referred to the actor in his characters in films.
The nickname given by the alleged drug dealer was revealed as part of a plea agreement signed by Perry’s friend Erik Fleming. Like Iwamasa, Fleming pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to distribute ketamine.
It was alleged that Sangha “used the name of a well-known character that (Perry) played on a television series,” implying she was referring to him as “Chandler.”

Sangha has not entered a plea to the charges.
Two doctors have also been charged: medic Mark Chavez has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute, while Salvador Plascencia, 42, has not yet pleaded guilty.
Prosecutors say Sangha wasn’t the only one to reference Perry in the communications. The two doctors are accused of mocking the actor in text messages.
They are said to have wondered ‘how much this idiot is willing to pay’ for ketamine and added: ‘Let’s find out.’
