Matthew Perry is begging Elon Musk to invent a new game-changing outdoors gadget – and his fans agree
His iconic character from Friends was known for his comic complaints and swearing.
And Matthew Perry appeared inspired by Chandler Bing on Wednesday when he took to Instagram to complain about a common outdoor nuisance.
The 54-year-old film and television star, who had previously been quiet on the platform for nearly six months, returned with a photo of what appeared to be part of his backyard to get something off his chest.
He called on Elon Musk, the late co-founder of Tesla and owner of X (recently rebranded from Twitter), to help him find a technological solution to his lawn problems.
“Why Elon Musk can send a woman to the moon but can’t invent a silent leaf blower?”
Urgent request: Matthew Perry, 54, sounded just like his Friends character Chandler Bing as he returned to Instagram on Wednesday with a plea for a new outdoor gadget; seen in November 2022 in Hollywood
Bringing in the big guns: Perry enlisted Elon Musk’s help, though he didn’t tag the Tesla CEO; seen in May 2022 in New York
In his photo, Matthew shared what appeared to be a lawn care worker tending to some of his plants and soil in a less populated area on the outskirts of his property, just above the white wall.
The photo showed a beautiful green patch of lawn, along with tall trees and bushes that helped give the actor some privacy.
Surprisingly, Matthew’s landscaper didn’t do the dreaded leaf blower, although the neighboring properties may have pumped out a deafening noise.
The comic star received a lot of agreement from her fans and followers, who chimed in in the comments.
One famous friend, Oscar winner Allison Janney, was on the same page.
‘Seriously!!! 🙌🏻,” she wrote, adding a raised hand emoji.
Matthew’s post also references one of Chandler’s classic Friends lines. It wasn’t clear if he remembered the reference, but his fans certainly did.
In one episode, Chandler told Joey (Matt LeBlanc) that he ‘got her machine,’ to which Joey replied, ‘Her secretary?’
Lawn care: Matthew asked if Elon could invent a quiet leaf blower while posting a photo of someone working on his lawn
Agreed: One celebrity pal, Oscar winner Allison Janney, was on the same page

Classic: In one episode, Chandler told Joey (Matt LeBlanc) that he “took her machine,” to which Joey replied, “Her secretary?” Chandler shot back, “No, interestingly, she picked up her leaf blower.”
Laugh: Others poked fun at one of Chandler’s catchphrases, writing “Could the leaf blower be any louder?”
Someone’s got to do it: Another fan wrote Perry was ‘asking important questions tbh’
“No, it’s interesting that her leaf blower picked up,” Chandler shot back, to which one fan mentioned.
Others poked fun at one of Chandler’s lines, writing ‘Can a leaf blower BE any louder?’
Another fan wrote that Perry was ‘asking important questions tbh.’
But others were simply shocked that he even returned to Instagram and that loud leaf blowers were the first thing he wanted to post about.
‘My man literally posted after almost 6 months just to complain about the sound of the blower!!! Just Matthew Perry stuff 😂,” they wrote.
‘EVERYONE SHUT UP MATTHEW PERRY POSTED ON INSTAGRAM,’ one fan enthused.
Some also lashed out at the actor for his seemingly petty complaint, especially one of privilege since he himself has not done any lawn work.
‘Because he has people cleaning his lawn 😂,’ another person commented.
Elon Musk may not have been the best choice to design a new silent leaf blower.
Although Musk is listed as a co-founder of Tesla — of which he is both CEO and former chairman — the company was founded in 2003, a year before he became an angel investor with a $6.5 million investment.
Weird choice: But others were simply shocked that he even returned to Instagram after six months and that loud leaf blowers were the first thing he wanted to post about
First World Problems: Some also took issue with the actor for his seemingly petty complaint, especially the privilege, as he himself did nothing on the lawn
Call for help: Elon Musk may have been an odd choice to solve his problem. Although he’s credited as the co-founder of Tesla, he came late as an angel investor, and ad revenue on X (formerly Twitter) has declined every month in the year since he bought it; seen in October 2022 in New York
Only after a settlement was reached to settle a 2009 lawsuit by one of the original two co-founders, ousted CEO Martin Eberhard, was Musk allowed to refer to himself as a co-founder of the company.
He bought Twitter last year for $44 billion, after trying to back out of the original deal and then relenting when Twitter sued him.
Since his takeover, Musk has laid off much of the social network’s staff and renamed it X.
According to third-party data provided to Reuters, Twitter’s US ad revenue has fallen every month in the year since Musk took control of the service.
