Matthew Gaudreau’s wife Madeline gives birth to baby boy four months after husband’s tragic death

Four months after Matthew Gaudreau tragically died in a bicycle accident the day before his sister’s wedding, his wife, Madeline Gaudreau, has given birth to a baby boy.

The hockey star and older brother Johnny Gaudreau died on August 29 when an alleged drunk driver struck their bicycle from behind while they were riding on a New Jersey road.

Madeline Gaudreau gave birth to a boy named Tripp on Sunday and posted a photo of her holding his hand at the hospital.

Tripp’s middle name turned out to be Matthew, after his father, while Madeline captioned the post, “Mommy & Daddy’s world.”

Katie Gaudreau’s wedding was postponed as the family mourned their losses over the summer.

The two were struck and killed by another vehicle driven by 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins of Woodstown, New Jersey, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

In documents seen by DailyMail.com, Higgins admitted to police that he drank “5-6 beers” before getting behind the wheel of his Jeep Grand Cherokee and crashing into the back of Johnny and Matthew.

The Blue Jackets have already paid tribute to the Gaudreau brothers and have more planned throughout the NHL season.

The Gaudreau family has continued to maintain a relatively public profile since Johnny and Matthew’s deaths.

In October, Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny’s wife, posted photos from daughter Noa’s second birthday.

Many Columbus Blue Jackets players attended the 2-year-old’s party in Ohio.

Johnny was 31 and Matthew was 29 when they died.

Johnny played eleven seasons in the NHL, his first nine with the Calgary Flames. He transferred to Columbus from the 2022 season.
