Shirvington took over as co-anchor six weeks ago when Koch was on leave, and network executives were said to have been impressed by his natural presenting skills.

The fan favorite already co-hosts Sunrise on Fridays, with The Australian Media Journal reporting senior management seeks to make the role permanent.

Koch’s departure will be gradual, as he will reduce the number of his days on the air over the next two years until his contract expires.
