Matt Shirvington cuts a gloomy figure as the new Sunrise host heads to Kochie’s farewell lunch

He just got the keys to Australia’s top-rated breakfast TV show.

But newly appointed Sunrise presenter Matt Shirvington, 44, looked far from happy with his new job when he was spotted walking to Pastor David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s farewell lunch on Friday afternoon.

The retired Olympian looked angry as he walked through Sydney’s CBD, his hands in the pockets of his dark trousers.

Shirvington looked rugged in a thick coat worn over a gray linen shirt as he headed for lunch at the posh eatery Grana.

He completes the look with a pair of smart white sneakers.

Joining ‘Shirvo’ at the fancy lunchtime catch-up included Kochie, Sunrise co-host Natalie Barr and former co-host Mel Doyle.

The somber photos come after Kochie jokingly “knocked down” his replacement Shirvo when he stepped onto the set of Sunrise for the last time on Friday, after hosting the show for 21 years.

Kochie, 67, was greeted with applause, hugs and well wishes from the Sunrise team and his family as they formed a guard of honor as he walked into Channel Seven’s studios.

In a cheeky dig at the time Tracy Grimshaw clumsily snubbed her ACA replacement Allison Langdon last year, Kochie pretended not to see Matt, 44, who takes over the top job as co-host starting next Monday.

After kissing his wife Libby, Kochie jokingly knocked out former Olympian Matt who appeared dejected after trying to hug Kochie.

‘Just kidding, just kidding. I’ve got an Ally Langdon for you!’ Kochie said as she laughed and hugged Matt.

“You almost got me, you almost got me!” Matt replied laughing.

Kochie’s last day comes after he announced his resignation from the popular breakfast show after 21 years last week.

Behind-the-scenes photos showed his co-hosts Natalie Barr, Edwina Bartholomew and Mark Beretta becoming overwhelmed with emotion between breaks of filming following the news.

During his on air announcement, Natalie looked heartbroken when Kochie said he had spent more time with her than with members of his own family in recent years.

An awkward interaction between Grimshaw and her A Current Affair replacement Langdon went viral last year as Tracy wrapped up her 17-year run as the show’s host.

Footage of her farewell showed Grimshaw walking through a guard of honor and when Langdon went in to hug her, she appeared to reject the hug.

At the time, her replacement had not yet been publicly named.
