Former MasterChef judge Matt Preston has shared the truth behind a ‘secret hand gesture’ he would make on camera while filming the cooking series.

The 62-year-old revealed he would twist his wedding ring to let his wife Emma know he was thinking of her.

“The first four years of MasterChef were shot in Sydney and my family lived in Melbourne,” he said News.com.au.

“So I had to find ways to let her know, while she was watching the show, that she was there (in his mind).

‘I always wore two wedding rings on my left hand, so during tastings I would turn the ring on my finger so she could look and know that not only was I lost in a strange MasterChef celebrity bubble, but that I was actually thinking about her. .’

Matt and Emma first met in 1993, when the former MasterChef judge moved to Australia with his ex-partner.

Despite this, Emma and Matt’s ex are surprisingly good friends and his former partner is even the godmother of their 23-year-old son Jonathan.

In addition to Jonathan, Matt and Emma have two children, William, 20, and Sadie, 18.

It comes after Matt recently reflected on the moment he shared a surprising family secret with his children.

The British-born food critic lifted the lid on his heritage last week in an interview with Stellar magazine, explaining that he was born to parents Jennifer and Michael, before being adopted by his mother’s second husband, Antony .

Matt only revealed the identity of his biological father with his own children Jonathan, William and Sadie last year, after requesting two birth certificates at an airport.

“You’re always looking for the right moment (to reveal the truth) and there was something so completely wrong about that moment,” he explained.

‘The fascinating thing is that we always make something big out of it – oh, that’s a surprise, or that’s a big family shock or a scandal – but is it? So many families have stories like this.”
