The high-profile journalist Peter FitzSimons made a brutal sleigh ride from comedian Matt Parkinson on Wednesday evening.

Parkinson, who portrays the terrifying ‘Goliath’ on Channel Seven game show The Chase Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald columnist jokingly called a ‘hack’ during a surprise outburst on the ABCs ask everything.

The 58-year-old made the comments during a discussion with co-hosts Wil Anderson and Jan Fran about the realities of working in the Australian media.

“I like the roving reporter, especially the slightly amateur ones who can’t do it that often, you know,” Parkinson said.

He then pretended to be a budding reporter who was stumbling his way through a TV interview.

“Hello, Terry Numbnuts here from Look At Me News…and a high-ranking media source has told me that The Sydney Morning Herald is having trouble with a lengthy hack that they can’t get rid of,” he said.

“A high-ranking media source has told me that The Sydney Morning Herald is having trouble with a lengthy hack that they can’t get rid of,” he said, posing as a clumsy TV reporter.

'And I said, "Gosh, that's a hard way to talk about Peter FitzSimons, especially since he's your man, Lisa," Parkinson continued, referring to FitzSimons' wife Lisa Wilkinson (left)

He then tried FitzSimons’ prolific career as a bestselling author.

‘And she said, ‘Have you ever read any of his books?’ And I said, “No, rightly so, Wilko.” Back to you in the studio, Wil and Jan,” Parkinson added.

It’s unclear if Parkinson has any personal complaint about FitzSimons, or if his comments were just made in jest.

FitzSimons has released nearly 30 non-fiction books, mostly focusing on historical events.

He also wrote biographies of Nancy Wake, Kim Beazley, Nick Farr-Jones, Les Darcy, Steve Waugh and John Eales.
