Matt Damon gets a new tattoo with a connection to his late father Kent

Actor Matt Damon got some fresh ink to honor his late father Kent, from famed tattoo artist Daniel Winter aka Winterstone.

The 52-year-old actor’s father, Kent, passed away in December 2017 at age 75, and Damon honored him with a tattoo reading ‘NOMAD,’ the name of his father’s ship, which is also Damon spelled backwards.

Winter revealed the ink in a new video on Instagram, adding that Damon returned the favor and also gave Winter a tattoo, his first time ever doing so.

Damon, who has been promoting his new movie AIR with childhood friend Ben Affleck, had previously teamed up with Winter four years ago.

He had Winter, who had tattooed stars like Lady Gaga, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, tattoo the new ink on his right shoulder, right above the names of his four daughters that Winter tattooed on him in 2019. Alexia, 24, Isabella, 16, Gia, 14 and Stella, 12.

I have to tattoo an idol of mine! It’s great work having great experiences like these,” Winter began, using the hashtag #MattDamon.

‘And Mr. Damon tattooed me! His first time tattooing! A little universe…also known as a dot! he added he.

Winter continued: ‘The tattoo has great meaning! By his late father. We tattooed NOMAD which was his father’s ship and it also says DAMON backwards!’

‘Nice cool tattoo with so much meaning!’ Winter ended.

The post included a short video set to Avicii’s song The Nights, showing Winter working on the tattoo and the finished product.

The video also features an image of Damon sharing a laugh with Winter and another video of Damon handling the tattoo gun before giving a high five.

Winter also shared another snap on his Instagram story, showing Damon giving Winter the tattoo, adding: ‘Oh, I forgot to mention it. Mr. Damon gave me my first tattoo of him. A small universe, also known as a point!

The actor’s right shoulder also features another tattoo that says Lucy, which was done seven years ago in honor of his wife Luciana Barroso.

“On a whim, my wife said, ‘Today we’re getting tattooed,’ so I got her name tattooed on myself,” Damon explained.

“And I always felt lonely in my arm, and I always wanted to put the children there. So now, I have the kids there, and now I have to find a way to tie it all together,” she added.

Video from Monday shows Damon added more ink around the names, including the eye of a compass and other embellishments.

Damon will next be seen in the highly anticipated Air, starring opposite Ben Affleck, who is also directing.

The actor plays Sonny Vaccaro, a Nike salesman who landed NBA rookie Michael Jordan in an endorsement deal that would change the face of sports.

Affleck plays Nike co-founder/CEO Phil Knight with a cast that also includes Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans and Viola Davis and Julius Tennon playing Michael Jordan’s parents.

Damon will also play Leslie Grove Jr. in director Christopher Nolan’s new film Oppenheimer, which hits theaters July 21.

Leslie Grove Jr. was the main project leader of The Manhattan Project, which developed the world’s first nuclear bombs.

Cillian Murphy plays the main character, nuclear physicist Robert Oppenheimer, who designed the nuclear bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
