Husband is branded ‘selfish’ for complaining that his pregnant wife combined his Father’s Day and birthday celebrations into one – complete with a cake and a family BBQ
A couple popular on TikTok is dividing opinion after the man complained about having to celebrate his birthday and Father’s Day at the same time.
Husband-and-wife duo Matt and Abby Howard, who live in Arizona, have more than five million followers on their couples account, where they document the day-to-day life of their relationship.
The couple, both 25, are high school sweethearts and share sons Griffin and August after marrying in 2019 during their sophomore year of college.
But after a recent episode of theirs Unplanned podcastMatt was slammed by viewers after calling his 2023 Father’s Day celebrations – planned by Abby – ‘a bit of a bummer’.
Abby said she combined Matt’s birthday and Father’s Day celebrations into one because she was heavily pregnant at the time and the couple had only just returned from their “babymoon” in Mexico.

Abby admitted that last June she “combined” Father’s Day and Matt’s birthday celebration into one
Yet she still invited their family over for a barbecue and bought him a Dairy Queen cake.
Speaking on the podcast which has been viewed more than 10 million times, Abby explained: ‘We have decided as a family that we will not celebrate Father’s Day this year.
“Last year it was June 18, Matt’s birthday, so he had Father’s Day and his birthday on the same day and I will say I kind of combined the holidays.”
Matt added, “You combined them both. It’s okay though. I mean, you were pregnant, you were uncomfortable, you were close.”
Abby then explained that despite their busy schedules, she still managed to rise to the occasion.
She continued, “We had just gotten back from our babymoon that day. I got you a pie from DQ and had our family grill it.”
Matt then interjected, “Well, I’ve grilled, but I know a lot of dads grill on their birthdays. But yeah.’
When Abby protested that in return she was “making your child grow, all day, every day,” Matt added: “You made my child grow, but just like Father’s Day and my birthday were the exact same day, it was a bit of a shame.”

The couple said they are now ‘boycotting’ Father’s Day and will instead celebrate it three months later
Abby said, “I’m going to be honest with you, I let you down and I’m so sorry.”
They ended the video by revealing that they are “boycotting” Father’s Day in June and will instead celebrate it three months later so that Matt can have two separate celebrations.
But outraged fans were unhappy with the agreement, calling Matt “selfish” for his response to Abby’s efforts, especially considering she was pregnant at the time.
They wrote: ‘Matt is so selfish. Abby was pregnant, just back from vacation, had another BBQ party with cake planned… and she abandoned Matt? How? What a selfish person Matt is. Wow’;

Matt and Abby have been documenting their relationship on TikTok during the pandemic, but fans have noticed the tension between them since they welcomed their second child together.
