Matildas star Charli Grant thrills her fans with stunning news about her love life
- Adelaide-born Grant, 23, has made 27 appearances for her country
- first debuted her romance on social media in August 2023
Matildas stars including Sam Kerr and Steph Catley have rushed to congratulate their teammate Charli Grant after she announced her engagement in a heartwarming Instagram post.
The 23-year-old revealed she said yes when her partner Lachlan Cameron went down on bent knee to propose in front of a romantic setup with red roses, heart-shaped balloons and fairy lights that spelled out ‘marry me’.
Grant simply captioned the post “22.12.24” with a heart and wedding ring emoji — and her fellow Matildas wasted no time in congratulating the woman they call “ChaCha.”
Kerr and Catley were joined by Hayley Raso, Mackenzie Arnold, Cortnee Vine, Kyah Simon, Chloe Logarzo and Emily Gielnick in reacting to the happy news.
Grant and Cameron’s romance first became public in August last year when she posted a photo of them both at Adelaide Oval with the caption “perfect pear.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Cameron is the retail and merchandise licensing manager for A-League team Adelaide United, having worked in retail and administration for the Port Adelaide AFL club for seven years.

A quick look at his Instagram profile shows that he plays footy for the Port District Football Club in the Adelaide Footy League, a first division amateur competition.
Grant made 27 appearances for the Matildas after making his debut for the national team in 2021.
The defender’s career in top-flight football began in 2018 with Adelaide United when she was just 17 years old, before moving to Swedish clubs Rosengård and Vittsjö.
She moved to English giants Tottenham Hotspur this year and scored one goal in eleven games for Spurs.
Grant’s only goal for the Matildas was a stunner that helped the side to a 2-0 win over England in April 2023.
‘That was surreal. “I’m so proud of the girls who got the win, but to score another goal on top of that is so exciting and I’m just excited,” she said after the win.
Former Tillies coach Tony Gustavsson was full of praise for the full-back afterwards.
“Look at Charli Grant’s journey. She had zero caps when I came on board,” Gustavsson said.
“Since the first day, when she had some difficulties with international football, which is logical because the pace is much faster than she is used to, she has shown the right mentality and she really represents many things in this team: the courage.
‘She was put in the stands at Rosengård, not even in their matchday squad, and then goes on loan to Vittsjö, but look what she is doing now against England away – that eagerness and dedication, to always improve one day.
“I’m so happy for her – and she represents a lot of what this team stands for.”
Grant’s first match for her country was against the Republic of Ireland and she was also part of the side that finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics.

Last year she also took center stage during the World Cup when the Matildas thrilled the country.
Grant said her struggle to get playing time in Sweden was a turning point in her career.
‘It made me appreciate every minute I was on the pitch and I still do. So in a way I’m grateful not to have played there because it allowed me to make the most of every moment and really work on the things I needed to develop my game,” she said.
“I definitely think about my technical ability and my composure on the ball [have improved]. Technically, I feel like I was always a little behind growing up; My pace and fitness have always been my strengths, so I think I could get away with some things growing up, but here you can’t get away with those technical aspects of the games.”
Grant will be in line for more action with the Matildas when they take on Japan in the SheBelievesCup on February 21, followed by matches against the USA on February 24 and Colombia three days after that.
