Matildas fans stranded in Sydney Olympic Park after crushing World Cup defeat to England with ‘no trains coming or going’
Tens of thousands of football fans have been stranded in Sydney Olympic Park after the Matildas’ crushing defeat to England in the Women’s World Cup semi-final.
Photos show a huge crowd draped in green and gold waiting on the platform after Wednesday night’s game.
According to Sydney Trains, a power supply problem caused major delays with a warning to commuters to allow for additional travel time.
“Trains are running late due to equipment power issues at Ashfield,” said a statement from Sydney Trains.
“If you are traveling home to the town, you have the option of joining an Olympic Park service to Lidcombe and transferring to a T3 Bankstown Line service as a diversion through the affected area.”
Fans have taken to social media to express their frustration, with many trying to get home to escape the cold.
“No trains from Olympic Park and only 100,000 people trying to get home,” one Twitter user wrote.
What a debacle Sydney! What is it actually. How do we all get home??’
