Matheus Nunes REFUSES to train with Wolves in a bid to push through a £52 million transfer to Man City and will face disciplinary action for his absence

  • City made an improved £52 million offer for the 25-year-old midfielder

Matheus Nunes has refused to train with Wolves and has informed the club that he wants to go to Manchester City.

Wolves turned down a £47 million bid last week and want a minimum of £60 million for the 25-year-old.

Nunes did not train on Sunday and Monday because he seems to have to endure the transition.

Wolves, however, are confident they will not let him go unless their appreciation is met and are prepared to wait until after the transfer window to integrate him back into the squad.

The Brazil-born Portugal international will also face disciplinary action and an expected fine.

Nunes joined Wolves in a club-record £42 million contract from Sporting Lisbon last summer and has a further four-year contract, plus the option of a further 12 months. Liverpool and Chelsea showed interest earlier this year.

City, who have also eyed Eberechi Eze at Crystal Palace, are looking to sign another midfielder this week after losing Kevin De Bruyne to five months with a hamstring injury.

Wolves, who face Blackpool in the second round of the Carabao Cup at Molineux on Tuesday night, have an interest in City midfielders James McAtee and Tommy Doyle, who were loaned out to Sheffield United last season.

However, it is believed that a deal for both would be handled separately in addition to the Nunes offer. City proposed an improved offer of around £52m with add-ons, but that is still below Wolves’ valuation.

Pep Guardiola, who is recovering in Barcelona after back surgery and missed out on Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Sheffield United, has already signed Mateo Kovavic and Jeremy Doku this summer, as well as defender Josko Gvardiol, but is hoping for further reinforcements.

City wanted to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham Mail Sport and revealed they were reneging after the Football Association launched an investigation into alleged gambling offenses by the Brazilian midfielder.

Meanwhile, Barcelona continue to investigate a loan deal for City defender Joao Cancelo.
