Matchroom Boxing working on NEW OPPOSITION for Anthony Joshua following the CANCELLATION of his rematch with Dillian Whyte after ‘The Body Snatcher’ ‘returned adverse analytical findings in VADA drug test’
Mail Sport understands that Matchroom Boxing is working on a new opponent for Anthony Joshua following the cancellation of his upcoming fight with Dillian Whyte on August 12.
The rematch has been postponed after Whyte “returned adverse analytical findings” in a pre-fight drug test conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).
A statement from Matchroom Boxing today (Aug 5) read: ‘Today the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control that Dillian Whyte had returned adverse analytical findings as part of any anti-doping protocol.
“In light of this news, the fight will be canceled and a full investigation will be launched. Further information about the event will follow.’
However, according to sources, Joshua could still be on the card against a new opponent.
Matchroom is exploring the possibility at the time of writing and could easily be looking to elevate the heavyweights on the undercard to a main event slot.
Filip Hrgovic and Demsey McKean will compete in the co-main event, while Derek Chisora and Gerald Washington are also on the bill.
