John Torode and Gregg Wallace address plans to QUIT MasterChef as the show celebrates 20th series

John Torode and Gregg Wallace have spoken about quitting MasterChef as the show celebrates its 20th series.

The duo have been hosting the show since its relaunch in 2005, but it seems neither of them are ready to hang up their judging boots as they admitted they won’t be leaving the show anytime soon.

John, 58, joked to Bella magazine: ‘Who would we leave it to? Don’t be ridiculous. That’s too much responsibility for anyone. Taking over me and him is impossible.

‘Where can you find two attractive people, one with hair, the other without, anywhere? There is no way!’

Revealing what it would take to get him to quit the hit BBC show, he teased: ‘I think to get me out of my position they have to push me out the door or mix my food for me to taste it. Then I’ll leave.’

Gregg, 59, also spoke about the pair’s strong professional bond, as he admitted that it is their trust in each other that has allowed them to work side by side for all these years.

The latest series of MasterChef kicked off on Monday as the first set of contestants were put to the test.

In the new series, fifty-eight passionate and talented hopefuls from all walks of life, such as a farmer, archaeologist and musical director, will show what they can do.

Viewers can expect to see the contestants, from Dorset and Sunderland to the Scottish Borders and North Wales, dishing out their food and cultural heritage in the hope of making it to the final.

Speaking about the new series, John said: “I can hardly believe we are in the twentieth series of this incredibly brilliant show.

“It’s such a point of pride and celebration. I believe that food brings people together and every year we are fortunate to be able to help incredibly talented, hardworking people realize their dream and indulge in the joy that is MasterChef.”

Meanwhile, Gregg said: ‘This is the moment when the wave of ambition hits the rock of reality for these amateur chefs – and we put them through the most extraordinary challenges we have ever seen.

‘This show means business and we are so lucky to see the standard of cooking go up and up every year.

Speaking to Bella magazine, John joked: ‘Who would we leave it to? Don’t be ridiculous. That’s too much responsibility for anyone – to take it from me and him, that’s impossible.”
