MasterChef elimination sees fan favourite go home – but viewers are left confused by bizarre preview promising ‘Mystery Box babies’

MasterChef Australia was rocked by an elimination on Sunday evening, with Jonathan Hooper and Harry Butterfield in the bottom two.

But while many were sad to see 29-year-old Jonathan get the airing of the Channel 10 series, most were left stunned by the shocking promo for Monday night’s episode.

As the carpenter left, the show started with a bizarre promo that left viewers scratching their heads as the show teased “mystery box babies.”

It was preceded by Jonathan saying goodbye to the show after his grandmother’s beef ragu pappardelle recipe failed to impress the judges.

He faced elimination alongside Harry, 29, who was presented with his own grandmother’s ravioli, but in the end Jonathan was given the prize.

But things took a bizarre turn when the episode started airing a promo for Monday night’s episode, teasing a mystery box challenge.

‘What happens tomorrow night on MasterChef Australia when there are babies in a mystery box?’ the voiceover claimed in a bizarre moment.

‘Mystery Box Babies??? Have they never discussed this in personal development at school???’ wrote one person.

Another tweeted: ‘A mysterious box of babies?’ next to a gif that reads: ‘What the actual f**k?’

“Not gonna lie, when they first said it in the #MasterChefAU promo. “If there are babies in a mysterious box…” I thought, “Why did they put babies in the box?!” said another.

Someone else joked: ‘Babies? #MasterChefAU should promote responsible ownership of mystery boxes. Why haven’t they been desexed?’
