MasterChef Australia star Matt Preston reveals devastating family news as he breaks down in tears while filming Dancing With The Stars
Matt Preston has revealed that his mother died of bone cancer just months before he was invited to join Dancing With The Stars Australia.
The former MasterChef judge, 61, said he couldn’t properly mourn her death until he started filming for the Channel Seven show.
He explained that his dance partner Jessica Raffa, 39, whose husband also suffers from blood cancer, helped him process his grief.
The pair decided to choreograph a dance together to commemorate the loss of his mother and best friend, who died of the same disease.
The celebrity chef said he was in tears during the heartfelt performance.

“I think we tend to stay very upright when we go through a bereavement,” he shared 7Life.
‘We arrange the funeral, we do the planning. [We think about] what are you going to do with their china collection and all that process stuff you have to do.
“It tends to suppress the sadness and sadness when you focus on it like that. Then all that stuff can bubble to the surface, and I found the [dancing] incredibly cathartic.’

He went on to say that he was finally “able to cry” over his mother’s death.
Matt will star in Dancing With The Stars alongside Emily Weir from Home and Away, former Bachelor star Laura Byrne and many others.
Daryl Somers and Sonia Kruger will once again host the toe-tapping action.
Dancing With The Stars premieres on Sunday 18 June on Channel Seven.
The pair choreographed a dance together that would commemorate the loss of Matt, bring him to tears, and finally allow him to mourn the death of his mother.
