MasterChef Australia viewers call out contestants for ‘unsanitary’ in the kitchen: ‘It’s pretty grim and I’d dine elsewhere’
Viewers of MasterChef Australia have once again berated contestants in the latest series for being ‘unhygienic’ in the kitchen.
On a recent episode of the show, contestant Rue Mupedzi was seen coughing while she was cooking.
After Tuesday night’s episode, a viewer started a threat on Reddit about the series’ lack of “basic culinary hygiene.”
They wrote, “Why doesn’t MasterChef make an effort to teach basic culinary hygiene? The contestants have to look good, I think.
“Brent should never be in a kitchen without a beard net. Maybe outside at a BBQ at best.

“If I saw Cath in a kitchen without a hairnet, I’d eat somewhere else.
“I think it was Malissa kneading and mixing her dough by hand with a huge diamond ring on one hand.
“I forget who but one cook clearly switched from slicing fresh fish to seasoning with the same jeweled knife in hand—perhaps an editorial error, but the point remains.”

A MasterChef viewer called out contestant Brent for not wearing a beard net
While some viewers disagreed that hair nets are necessary, some had a major problem with participants using their fingers to taste.
One person wrote, “I’m not asking for hair nets or anything, but I wish participants would use one of dozens of spoons for tasting, rather than dipping their fingers into their sauce/creme anglaise/etc.” then put their fingers in their mouths.
“I saw Malissa do this the other day and shuddered.”
While some viewers disagreed that hair nets are necessary, some had a major problem with contestants using their fingers for tasting, while another called out Malissa for wearing a ring.
Another viewer commented, “So many shows allow contestants or hosts to wear rings while cooking.
“I understand the reasons why they want to keep wearing them, but it’s pretty grim to see them end up in breadcrumbs or meat.”
It comes after rumors circulated that MasterChef judges Andy Allen and Melissa Leong could be leaving the show as they continue to grapple with the tragic death of their co-star Jock Zonfrillo.
Some fans are convinced that the entire hosting panel may be replaced altogether, after Channel 10 declined to confirm Jock’s replacement in a recent casting call for contestants next season.
“Has anyone ever thought, ‘What if Mel and Andy decide not to remain judges next season?'” one Facebook user wrote on a MasterChef fan page last week.
“That occurred to me too,” another user wrote.
Several fans pointed out that it wouldn’t be the first time MasterChef Australia has cut an entire jury, following the departures of Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris in 2019.
