Melissa Leong has revealed that she and ex-husband Joe Jones are still good friends after their ‘messy’ breakup.

The MasterChef star, 40, said goodbye to Joe in 2020, but tells this week Stellar Magazine they remain friendly.

“I’m very lucky that we have mutual respect, a lasting friendship and the greatest hope for each other’s happiness,” she said.

‘That was not a rule or PR stunt to placate people. It’s true. Just as it is important to destigmatize mental health, it is important to destigmatize divorce as a “failure”. It’s not.’

Melissa says the couple broke up to give each other a chance at finding new love.

“As with all interpersonal relationships — friendships, work experiences, romances — sometimes things have to get messy until they can sort themselves out,” she said.

“I’m very lucky that we have mutual respect, a lasting friendship and the greatest hope for each other’s happiness,” she said.

“And that’s okay. I don’t think it’s good to be hard on yourself. Sometimes it stops and it’s better for both parties to acknowledge it and give each other a chance for future happiness by letting go and moving on.’

Melissa debuted her relationship with Rob Mason in October 2021, just 10 months after her split from husband Joe.

She first appeared on Rob’s Instagram page last August, before finally making things official two months later.

“Sometimes things end, and it’s better for both parties to acknowledge it and give each other a chance at future happiness by breaking free and moving on,” she added.

The cook revealed that she feels “satisfied” after finding love with Rob, following her breakup with Joe in December 2020.

In the podcast Emsolation with Em Rusciano, the star admitted that her newfound happiness was “very hard-earned.”

“I think any adult who reaches a certain age, if you put in the effort, will get there. But the other thing to remember with luck is that it’s fleeting,” explained the food writer.

On the Emsolation with Em Rusciano podcast, the star admitted that her newfound happiness had been “very hard-earned.”

“So, if you’re just working on being satisfied… Satisfaction is much more sustainable. That can take into account being really happy and being less happy, but being okay with who you are. That’s with you for life,” she added.

“The best investment I’ve ever made in myself is getting good with who I am. Ugly bits, weird bits, funny bits, you know, all of them.’

Melissa also said she tries “not to share private life,” but admits it can be difficult when you’re out in the open.

“Sometimes that’s forced out to the public. I don’t know what I think yet. Actually, I really hate it. I really hate it. I don’t like being forced to talk about things,” she said.

Melissa announced her divorce from bar owner Joe after nearly four years of marriage.

“It’s brought us so much happiness to walk together, but it’s time for Joe and I to break up and move on, apart,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

“⁣We ask for your kindness and attention to our privacy, we will not comment further as our private life has, and always will be.”
